EADS CCR deploys SynfiniWay from Fujitsu for extended application chaining across distributed computing
Enables standardised interface for remote computation to increase global operating efficiency
Paris, 4th October 2005 — Fujitsu Systems Europe announces that EADS CCR has installed SynfiniWay™ V2 to expand process optimisation and innovation for their engineering applications. The SynfiniWay service-oriented collaborative computing platform virtualises the computational resources between two EADS CCR sites in Paris and Toulouse, allowing end-users to increase their effective resources. Meta-scheduling heuristics will ensure that overall workload is then correctly balanced according to priority and cost.
One of the main expectations from SynfiniWay is the workflow mechanism to link applications, as explained by Guillaume Alléon, Head of High Performance Computing at EADS CCR: “The service view of applications provided by SynfiniWay exactly matches our vision of the future use of computing resources by our engineers. We are using the SynfiniWay workflow platform to create links between these services [analysis and translation tools] along the process chain, and to automatically manage the data movement between tasks. In this way we are creating faster processes, that are more resilient in case of system failure, and that allow for greater synchronisation between collaborating groups.”
EADS CCR, as part of the research organization of EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company), is a leader in the use of advanced industrial IT solutions and provides expertise for technology innovation to the Business Units of the Group such as AIRBUS, EADS Space Transportation, MBDA and EUROCOPTER and to external clients. Applications used by EADS span a wide range of industrial analyses – such as structural analysis, acoustics and electromagnetics. SynfiniWay will be used by EADS CCR on a variety of hardware systems running both Linux® and Unix®, as well as desktop machines under Windows®. In addition to service-based workflow, SynfiniWay also comprises a powerful global file explorer which allows end-users to interact with all allowed files as if they were on local disks, irrespective of the network distance.
SynfiniWay provides a unique value combination of Productivity, Flexibility and Collaboration. Naoya Tamura, CEO of Fujitsu Systems Europe, describes how these values will be demonstrated: “Increase in productivity is a key requirement for EADS CCR. Robust services and optimised processes lead to gains in end-user efficiency, while automated data flow and meta-scheduling improve resource utilisation. Greater resource flexibility is achieved through the SynfiniWay virtualisation layer that allows operations to rapidly adapt to new business needs. Finally, common workflows and workspace promote greater collaboration through dynamic process interaction and immediate data exchange.”
To complete the SynfiniWay solution, Fujitsu Systems Europe has also been contracted to develop the services based on current applications and the initial set of customised workflows.
