Fujitsu Agrees IT Services Flex Framework Deal With Her Majesty’s Treasury

September 24, 2009

Fujitsu, a leading IT systems, services and products company, has agreed a five-year contract with Her Majesty’s Treasury (HMT) to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services. The range of services include, provision for desktop, laptop and multi-functional devices, secure service desk and data storage and disaster recovery facilities.

The project will be delivered as part of public sector Flex, a framework which allows Fujitsu - in conjunction with the Cabinet Office - to provide ICT as a shared service across the public sector.

Fujitsu will raise support and service standards by implementing strict service level agreements and will help to improve productivity within HMT personnel by delivering a secure remote working solution.

Karen Delafield chief information officer HMT comments, “The decision to enter the Flex framework is one which will benefit the organisation in many ways. Fujitsu will help us to accomplish our vision of a modern, flexible, secure and resilient ICT service. The partnership will deliver significant efficiencies whilst also providing a level of flexibility and scalability which cannot be achieved by maintaining services in-house. It also enables us to participate in the Government shared service in line with our own Operational Efficiency Programme.”

Eithne Wallis CB, managing director, UK Government Business, Fujitsu comments, “Adding HMT to the list of Government bodies who form part of the Flex framework is no small achievement. Fujitsu is committed to delivering highly reliable, resilient and secure services which will benefit HMT at a time when its role in central government is more important than ever. Fujitsu will strive to implement a service which achieves its efficiency goals whilst improving the quality of service to users and making a demonstrable impact on the carbon emissions of the department.”

As part of the contract some staff are expected to transfer across from HMT to Fujitsu under the Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) arrangement.

HMT is the latest government organisation to form part of Flex and joins The Cabinet Office, The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass), Crossrail and The Office for National Statistics (ONS).

About Flex

Over the past year, the Transformational Government Agenda has placed emphasis on improving the efficiency of corporate services and infrastructure to free up resources for front line service. To help achieve this objective, Fujitsu and the Cabinet Office announced a new framework in May 2007. The Flex framework provides information and communication technology (ICT) as a shared service across the public sector. The Cabinet Office has taken up the service itself and also acts as a purchasing authority for other public sector organisations.
