Full-color Plasma Display(1992)

Fujitsu's color plasma display units released in 1989 succeeded in bringing colors to plasma displays, which had gained widespread attention as display devices, and in achieving long lifespans comparable to CRT devices. Plasma displays able to show 3 colors (red, green, yellow) were mass-produced and released in 1990, followed in 1992 by the release of the world's first full-color plasma display unit.
Dr. SHINODA Tsutae, formerly of Fujitsu Laboratories, developed and commercialized a Color Plasma Display with Fujitsu. It influenced the development of LCD and OLED televisions and greatly contributed to the popularization of the present wall-mounted large-screen televisions. The IEEE recognized it as an IEEE Milestone on May 20, 2025. Details of the approved technologies can be found in a press release from Shikoh Tech Co., Ltd.
