Environmental Accounting

Since the fiscal year ending in March 1999, Fujitsu has been implementing 'environmental accounting' to assess the relationship between environmental investment and its effects by quantitatively identifying the costs and effects related to environmental conservation.

We have gone beyond the Ministry of the Environment's "2002 Environmental Accounting Guidelines" to establish our own calculation standards for difficult-to-identify estimated benefits as part of efforts to assess our environmental conservation efforts in greater detail. Fujitsu Group sites and subsidiaries use the compiled data to identify problems to be addressed and share in achievements. We also compiling the results of our Green Process activities aimed at simultaneous reduction of the environmental burden and manufacturing costs.

Fujitsu introduced environmental accounting in March 1999 to provide quantitative assessments of the costs and effects of environmental protection measures throughout the company. Our environmental accounting in fiscal 2002 involved collation of data from 91 companies in Japan and overseas. The costs totaled ¥18.9 billion, and the total value of related economic effects was ¥21.0 billion.

Fujitsu introduced environmental accounting in March 1999 to provide quantitative assessments of the costs and effects of environmental protection measures throughout the company. Our environmental accounting involved the collation of data from 95 companies in fiscal 2001. Costs totaled ¥18.7 billion, while the total value of related economic effects was ¥24.3 billion - both of which figures are similar to the fiscal 2000 results.

Fujitsu introduced environmental accounting in March 1999 to provide quantitative assessments of the costs and effects of environmental protection measures throughout the company. Despite a revision of the environmental accounting guidelines in fiscal 2000 in accordance with guidelines published by Japan's Ministry of the Environment, new items were added to the system without altering the central focus on existing effect collation methods to maintain consistency with the previous year.

PDF The first acquisition in Japan of third-party certification of environmental accounting
On June 23, Fujitsu became the first company in Japan to acquire third-party certification of its environmental accounting for the March 1999 term by the Ohta Showa Environmental Management and Quality Research Institute.

The company introduced the environmental accounting system starting from the figures for FY1998.
