At its annual customer conference VISIT in Munich, Germany, Fujitsu today introduces new technologies to drive enterprise cloud adoption – combined with powerful components for datacenters, server rooms and desktops.
Three major cloud computing initiatives remove the roadblocks for further widespread enterprise and mid-size business adoption, and provide a future-facing bridge between today’s largely on-premise datacenter infrastructures and tomorrow’s cloud-based delivery models.
The new homogeneous Global Cloud Platform underlines Fujitsu’s truly worldwide service delivery capabilities as a trusted and reliable full-scale IT provider, with pre-integrated and configured services that enable easier migration to private or hybrid cloud-based services.
In addition, the Fujitsu Dynamic Cloud provides complete control over the critical make-or-break factors for enterprise cloud adoption such as the physical location and future portability of data.
The trio is completed by Fujitsu’s security offering for private and trusted cloud environments, a comprehensive standard package of security measures including intrusion detection and prevention, firewalling and secure web server, to lock down Fujitsu Infrastructure as a Service offerings.
New additions to PRIMERGY server family – large and small
At VISIT, Fujitsu pulls the wraps off two new additions to the extensive PRIMERGY family of x86 servers. The new PRIMERGY BX400 is a fully-featured blade system built from the ground up as a user-friendly and versatile infrastructure designed for midsized customers with large computing and storage requirements, including branch offices. The PRIMERGY BX400 is a green datacenter in a box, providing an optimum combination of up to eight server or storage blades in a small enclosure, supported by a comprehensive set of solutions and services.
Also introduced is a new entry-level PRIMERGY micro server model, bringing professional, centralized server technology within affordable reach to small businesses for the first time – combining IT peace-of-mind and business velocity with a lower price point. The new PRIMERGY MX130 S1 breaks away from traditional thinking that small businesses do not need or cannot afford professional servers. Providing a solid, reliable AMD-based platform for file, web and print services, the PRIMERGY MX130 S1 is a cost-effective alternative to sharing valuable business data via an error-prone patchwork combination of peer-to-peer networks, easily-stolen USB drives and inter-office emails.
Enhancements to Zero Client for VDI implementations
For companies considering a transition from desktop PCs to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Fujitsu’s VISIT event has a delight in store: two new Zero Client models: the Zero Client DZ22-2 and the Zero Client DZ19-2. Both provide more choices and flexibility that make it easier than ever for companies to integrate Zero Clients into their existing infrastructure. Recognizing that customers need to choose the platform that best works for their unique business needs, Fujitsu’s Zero Clients support more hypervisor platforms than any other vendor. In addition, new features such as multi-monitoring, LED technology and Power over Ethernet (PoE) further reduce costs and increase productivity. Fujitsu Zero Clients support all three leading hypervisors, including VMware ESX(i), Microsoft Hyper-V and as of January 2011, Citrix Xen Desktop. Fujitsu’s highly scalable architecture makes it easy to add or remove Zero Clients to meet changing business demands.
New microsite focuses on changing technology perspectives
Fujitsu has identified nine technological trends that it expects to have a lasting impact on the way companies do business – and these are the focus of a new microsite. In addition to cloud computing, the site focuses on trends such as off-the-peg software – plus the new Generation Y and their attitudes towards social networking and social responsibility. Designed to help public and private sector customers to navigate towards realizing the wider social and business benefits of cloud computing, Fujitsu also releases today its global research report ‘Personal Data in the Cloud: The Importance of Trust.’ The report finds that trust will be the key to unlocking the personal data needed to realize the future benefits of cloud computing, but the degree to which governments and businesses are trusted to look after personal data varies greatly from country to country.
A glimpse into the future
The VISIT event also provides Fujitsu customers and partners with a glimpse of future products, and the 2010 event is no exception. One of the highlights is a design mock up of a new slate model expected to debut in early 2011. Drawing on 20 years of tablet and slate PC experience, Fujitsu will be targeting mainly professional users with the new model.
The Fujitsu slate will combine the best of smartphones and PCs to set new usability standards. Designed for ergonomic usability and to provide the best user experience, it will run on the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. Though the specification is not finalized, it will likely have a screen size of 10.1-inches and best-in-class visibility from all sides and angles. Further details will be available soon.
