Fujitsu® Introduces Interstage® Business Process Manager™ Studio, Resets the Standard for Seamless Process Collaboration between Business and IT

New Graphical Process Modeling Studio is Industry's First Process Modeler to Support XPDL 2.0

Sunnyvale, CA, December 06, 2005- Fujitsu Software Corporation today announced a new, controlled release of Interstage® Business Process Manager™ Studio, delivering an unprecedented approach to seamless process collaboration and communication between business and IT users. The new graphical process modeling studio offers IT the power of an Eclipse-based modeling environment, while providing business analysts superior ease-of-use via a Microsoft® Visio®-like interface.

Building on Fujitsu's commitment to delivering standards-based business process management (BPM) solutions that transform ideas into action, Interstage Business Process Manager Studio is the industry's first process modeler to support the newly ratified XML-based Process Definition Language (XPDL) 2.0 standard. Interstage Business Process Manager Studio, a module of Fujitsu's award-winning Interstage Business Process Manager solution, is currently available on a trial basis at no cost.

Today, XPDL 2.0 is the only format that supports the seamless transition of process models based on Business Process Modeling Notations (BPMN) enhancing collaboration and interoperability across an enterprise's extended network. BPMN is gaining popularity as the standard approach for visually describing the end-to-end flow of business processes by dividing them into "pools" and "swim lanes" that make it easier for business users to identify and follow the tasks assigned to them.

"A strong business process management suite provides a very rich, multi-level modeling environment supporting business and IT collaboration for process designs and policy management," said Jim Sinur, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "The ability to depict activities, from the highest level of abstraction down to the detailed technological implementation needs, makes a multilevel business model an important ingredient in any business process effort. Increasingly, vendors and enterprises are choosing BPMN as the standard notation for building these models."

Fujitsu has also made it significantly easier for business analysts to model processes by implementing an interface with the look-and-feel of Microsoft Visio's business drawing and diagramming solution. By basing the modeler on Eclipse, IT professionals are guaranteed the comfort of a familiar development environment providing them access to advanced functionality to rapidly put business processes into operation.

"Working with some of the world's leading enterprises, applications and developers, we recognize that the power of a business process management solution resides in its ability to transform ideas into action – enabling processes across people and systems, throughout the enterprise and its extended network," said Robert Sepanloo, senior vice president of Interstage at Fujitsu Software Corporation. "By incorporating XPDL 2.0 and BPMN support and introducing Interstage Business Process Manager Studio, Fujitsu has reset the standard for BPM modeling by combining unmatched capabilities for integration and automation with a familiar, easy-to-use interface."
