Fujitsu's Proven Network Error Correction Technology Implemented in AWS Elemental MediaConnect

AWS Elemental MediaConnect, one of Amazon Web Services, implemented Network Error Correction Technology (Fujitsu QoS, as follows:) which is implemented in our company video transmission equipment, and which has been used by broadcasters and other customers for years. AWS Elemental MediaConnect is a live video transmission service using AWS cloud backbones that delivers the flexibility, agility, and economics of IP-based networks. Our company has provided IP-based video transmission solutions using Fujitsu QoS as one of its major strengths, but by working with AWS Elemental Media Connect, we can provide more flexible and reliable services.

Fujitsu QoS is our company's original error correction technology on IP networks that recovers inevitable packet loss over best-effort lines such as the Internet and achieves highly reliable video transmission. Our company won the Engineering Emmy Award for this technology in 2018.

Background
The advantages of the IP-based video transmission solution that our company has been promoting include high flexibility and economic efficiency, but its weak points include the burden of maintaining and managing complex systems by customers themselves, and the unsuitability of international transmission and 1-to-N multi-site distribution for best-effort lines. Therefore, we started to study video transmission using a cloud backbone that provides an easy to use and broadband international network. Although AWS Elemental MediaConnect provided a similar service, Fujitsu QoS has many experiences of use in domestic and overseas broadcasters. By implementing this service in AWS Elemental MediaConnect, the IP series of video transmission equipment from our company, which implements Fujitsu QoS, is used as an edge device to provide even higher quality and reliability services. This is expected to expand the use of the system.

Overview of the Service
Our company IP series encoders are used on the transmitting side and decoders are used on the receiving side for on-site relay of broadcasting stations and video transmission between broadcasting stations. You connect to the AWS cloud over a common line such as the Internet, but Fujitsu QoS provides stable transmission. For international transmission, the IP series and the nearest AWS region are connected, and the cloud backbone is used between regions. Transmission via the cloud is inexpensive and affordable, and is more economical than international fiber. For multi-site delivery, you can specify multiple delivery destinations with AWS Elemental Media Connect, and deliver to up to 50 locations. You don't have to install your own servers like the on-premises service.
You can use this service simply by selecting Fujitsu QoS in the delivery protocol of AWS Elemental MediaConnect from the AWS management console.

We plan to offer video transmission services (SaaS format) based on AWS Elemental Media Connect with the IP series as the edge device for video transmission. Simple and easy to use with browser access, it provides a one-stop workflow from live relay to event delivery, enabling remote work styles.
