The library system is the world's first of its kind.

Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology is a biometric technology that recognizes the unique vein pattern of a person's palm, as a highly secure means of personal identification. This technology is extremely difficult to forge compared to other methods of biometric security, since palm vein patterns are internal to the body. Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology is also hygienic, as the scanning is contactless, thereby requiring no direct surface contact with the scanning device even when used in public applications. The new electronic paper features vivid color images that are unaffected even when the screen is bent, and features an image memory function that enables continuous display of the same image without the need for electricity. Tokyo, July 6, 2005 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced its co-development with NTT DoCoMo of a prototype high-capacity micro fuel cell and the prototype development of an external recharger for FOMA handsets. For the prototype micro fuel cell device, the concentration of the methanol fuel used was raised from 30%, the concentration used for the companies' previous fuel cells, to a remarkably higher concentration of over 99%. This enables the prototype device to charge up to three FOMA handset batteries with just 18 cc of methanol.

Tokyo, February 7, 2005 – Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. today announced the development of a single-chip multi-core processor designed for image processing use in high-performance digital consumer products, that is equipped with four FR-V processor cores (FR550) with operation frequencies of 533 megahertz (MHz). Using software only, the new multi-core processor features image processing functionality at speeds of 51.2 GOPS (giga operations per second) and data transfer performance at speeds of 1 gigabyte per second (GB/s), both which are four or more times greater than that of the conventional FR-V processor. This new multi-core processor is suited for wide application, in that by utilizing only software it enables image processing that in the past required customized large-scale integrated circuit chips (LSIs), and offers high performance and flexibility to adapt easily to specification modifications, version upgrades, and added features.
Tokyo, February 7, 2005 – Sharp Corporation and Fujitsu Limited today announced that they have entered into a basic agreement regarding the transfer of Fujitsu's liquid crystal display (LCD) operations to Sharp. The agreement calls for Fujitsu to transfer to Sharp the LCD research and development, manufacturing and sales operations of its consolidated subsidiary, Fujitsu Display Technologies Corporation (FDTC), along with related R&D equipment at Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. As a result of the transfer, Sharp is expected to take on FDTC's personnel and Yonago Plant in Tottori Prefecture, as well as Fujitsu Laboratories' personnel involved in FDTC-related R&D, and related intellectual property rights held by the Fujitsu Group. Sharp and Fujitsu are now discussing details of a definitive agreement, which they expect to complete in March.

Tokyo, February 2, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has reached a basic agreement with Hitachi, Ltd. regarding Fujitsu's transfer to Hitachi of 30.1% of the issued shares in their joint venture company, Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Limited (FHP), along with related plasma display panel (PDP) intellectual property rights. The companies intend to sign a formal agreement finalizing the arrangements by the end of March, at which time the specified intellectual property rights will be transferred to Hitachi. After providing financial support aimed at eliminating FHP's excessive debt, the companies plan to complete the transfer of shares, following which FHP will become a consolidated subsidiary of Hitachi.
Tokyo, February 1, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it will shift completely to the use of biodegradable plant-based materials for the manufacture of embossed carrier tape, used for packing large-scale integrated circuit chips (LSIs) when shipping them on reels (Figure 1, Figure 2).
