Fujitsu Reports FY 2004 First-Half Financial Results

Tokyo, October 28, 2004 – Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 2,220.0 billion yen (approximately US$20,182 million*) for the first half of fiscal 2004 (April 1 - September 30, 2004), an increase of 3.6% over the same period last year. Double-digit sales increases in system chips, 3G mobile phone base stations, and hard disk drives were offset by lower than expected sales of mobile phone handsets and solutions and systems integration services. Excluding the impact of restructuring last fiscal year, on a continuing operations basis Fujitsu's first-half net sales increased by 8.1%.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers Reports First Time Revenue Growth for First-Half Fiscal Year

Munich, October 6, 2004 – Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT company, announced fiscal year 2004 half-year financial results today. President and CEO Bernd Bischoff announced at VISIT 2004 European IT Forum, that the company delivered revenue growth for the first time ever in the first-half of a fiscal year. The company, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, announced a revenue of € 2,560* million based on preliminary estimates or a growth year-on-year of 15* percent. The company also announced a 60* percent year-on-year growth in profit before tax of €18* million for the first-half of the 2004/2005 fiscal year which runs from April 2004 through September 2004.

Fujitsu Develops Breakthrough Technology for Low-Cost Production of Gallium-Nitride HEMT

Tokyo, December 21, 2004 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of a technology that enables low-cost production of gallium-nitride (GaN)(*1) high electron mobility transistors (HEMT)(*2), a key technology in mobile base station amplifiers for 3G and future generations. This breakthrough technology reduces GaN HEMT production costs to less than one-third that of conventional levels, thereby contributing to the realization of lower-cost GaN HEMT-based amplifiers.

Rikkyo Primary School Introduces Advanced Security System for Real-time Monitoring of Students' Arrival/Departure

Tokyo, September 27, 2004 – Rikkyo Primary School today introduced a new security system at its Tokyo campus that uses active RFID tags to accurately monitor the comings and goings of its students in real time. The system, which was developed and is being deployed by Fujitsu Limited, will also help guard against unauthorized entry to the school grounds. The system begins trial operation today and is scheduled for full-scale rollout with the beginning of the new school year in April 2005.

Fujitsu Develops Service Robot that Offers Human Task Support in Offices and Commercial Establishments

Tokyo, September 13, 2004 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fujitsu Frontech Limited today announced their joint development of a service robot that can provide support for various services in offices, commercial facilities, and other public areas in which people work or spend leisure time. The newly developed robot features functions that enable it to provide such services as greeting and escorting guests onto elevators, operating the elevators, moving parcels using a cart, and security patrolling of buildings at night.

Fujitsu, University of Tokyo Develop World's First 10Gbps Quantum Dot Laser Featuring Breakthrough Temperature-Independent Output

Tokyo, September 10, 2004 – Fujitsu Limited and a research group at the University of Tokyo led by Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa, today announced the joint development of a quantum dot (*1) laser that succeeds in minimizing temperature-sensitive output fluctuations, which was not possible with semiconductor lasers in the past. The newly developed quantum dot laser achieves high-speed operation of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) across a temperature range of 20°C to 70°C without electrical current adjustments, and has minimal output fluctuations caused by changes in temperature. This breakthrough technology will pave the way for compact, low-cost, and low power-consumption optical transmitters targeting optical metro-access systems (*2) and high-speed optical LAN (*3) for which further development continues.

Fujitsu Wins Multi-Million BT Contract with Skanska

Birmingham, December 10, 2004 – Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, announces that a Skanska Fujitsu joint venture has been awarded a major contract by UK-based telecom operator BT. The equal-share partnership will be providing BT with build-out and network upgrade services during the contract, which has a total value of some 130 million GBP, with the project forming an integral part of BT's network upgrade programme. Fujitsu Initiates Legal Action Against Samsung SDI

Tokyo, April 7, 2004 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has asserted patent infringement claims against Samsung Japan Corporation in Tokyo District Court and Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. in U.S. Federal District Court in Los Angeles, California. Fujitsu seeks a court order against future importation and sales of infringing PDP products, and compensation for past infringement. In addition, the company is seeking administrative injunctive relief under a Japanese customs and tariffs law, which prohibits importation of products that infringe Japanese patents.
