Fujitsu Introduces Innovative Integrated Solution for Cost-Effective Carrier-Voice Migration

Birmingham, December 9, 2003 – Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, has unveiled a cost-effective, integrated solution for migrating legacy carrier-voice services to broadband. With Fujitsu's new GeoStream Integrated Voice and Data ADSL Line Card (IV-LCSS), the same exchange equipment supports conventional and broadband services concurrently. This ensures that traditional voice revenues can be generated from a new network platform without any customer disruption. For voice-only customers, the upgrade process to broadband is handled by straightforward remote configuration, eliminating the need for engineer intervention at the exchange. With the IV-LCSS, the door is also opened on a cross-section of innovative possibilities, such as customers enabling their broadband access via the web, and the integration of voice and data services.

Fujitsu Achieves Breakthrough Output with Gallium Nitride HEMT Amplifier

Kawasaki, December 8, 2003 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced that it has developed a gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) amplifier (Figure 1) which achieves the world's highest power output of 174 watts at 63 volts, while demonstrating unprecedented record drain efficiency of 40%, fulfilling W-CDMA system requirements for base stations. This breakthrough represents a significant step forward in making smaller and more energy efficient base stations for 3G mobile networks, and overcomes the technical hurdle for output needs exceeding 150 watts required for realistic application in 3G mobile systems.

Richardson, TX, December 1, 2003 – Low-Cost Access Solution Now Supports UPSR Capability Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., the leader in the IT and telecommunications market, today announced the availability of Unidirectional Path Switched Ring (UPSR) on its FLASHWAVE® 4010 SONET access device. Support for UPSR networks on the FLASHWAVE 4010 device allows service providers to reduce the cost of fiber access and extend the proven reliability and protection of SONET rings directly to customer premises. Temperature hardening has also been added to the FLASHWAVE 4010 device, which means it can be used in locations with little or no environmental control.

Fujitsu and Tellabs Successfully Demonstrate Enhanced Service Activation using OIF UNI 1.0 Specification

Richardson, TX, November 3, 2003 – Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. and Tellabs today announce they have successfully demonstrated rapid DS3 and Fast Ethernet service activation using the User-Network Interface (UNI), as defined by the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) UNI 1.0 specification. The purpose of the UNI 1.0 specification is to enhance carriers' ability to provision new services and reduce operational costs by distributing network control across direct signaling interfaces. Fujitsu used its next-generation FLASHWAVE® 4300 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) to demonstrate UNI 1.0 interoperability with the Tellabs® 6500 transport switch and the Tellabs 5500 NGX-S transport switch. This demonstration also established that Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling offers carriers the best protocols for improving service provisioning.

Fujitsu Develops High-Speed Multichannel Optical Switch Based on MEMS Mirrors

Tokyo, September 29, 2003 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited today announced the development of an 80-channel optical communications switch that adopts MEMS (micro electro-mechanical system*1) mirrors (see figure 1). BT's £1/2 million+ Emergency Recovery Unit Project Turned Around in Record Time

Birmingham, June 12, 2003 – Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, announces the completion of a fast-track project to design, supply and install several self-contained mobile infrastructure units (MIUs), each weighing some 14 tonnes fully equipped. Involving an investment in excess of £0.5 million, the BT MIUs are designed to be deployed anywhere in the country in no more than 12 hours, in order to restore vital communications in the event of an emergency. The portable units represent a key component in BT's "business as usual" policy, ensuring that the communications infrastructure can be restored as quickly as possible in the case of a major service disruption. In February 2003, BT awarded the contract to Fujitsu to kit out the MIUs, with the first commissioned at the end of May - just 12 weeks later.

Fujitsu's cost-effective ASDH Ethernet solution is designed to deliver a nationwide Ethernet service over the existing core network, using the proven Fujitsu FBX-A multi-service platform. Fujitsu recently demonstrated a fully working model of the ASDH Ethernet offering at the Adastral Park headquarters of BTexact Technologies, BT's advanced research and technology business.
