Fujitsu launches the ScanSnap S500M: “One-button” scanning to benefit Mac users

Fujitsu crossover-scanner for Apple/Intel platform

October 25, 2006

Fujitsu Europe Limited, a market-leading provider of document image scanners, today announced the launch of its newest scanning solution for the Apple Macintosh platform – the ScanSnap S500M. The new model is a compact-size PDF scanner for fast, reliable “one-button” scanning, safe digitisation and image transfer. The ScanSnap S500M is a true crossover-product, which enables Mac users to manage their day-to-day business comfortably and more efficiently.

One-button scanning approach
Fujitsu’s new document scanner for Macintosh is designed with a field-proven scanning concept: for users – even without previous operating experiences and without additional, time-consuming preparations – to generate searchable PDF files. Fujitsu’s new Mac companion offers scanning at resolutions of between 150 to 600 dpi at speeds up to 18 pages per minute in colour as well as black and white. In duplex mode capturing front and back pages in a single run, the scanning speed increases to 36 images per minute. Its 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) can be topped up whilst the scanner is being operated. Whether day-to-day business correspondence, business cards or multi-colour brochures up to A4 formats, the S500M scans each document via a simple “one button” technique in a matter of seconds, automatically saving them into an Adobe PDF file. The standard S500M package includes the full version of Adobe® Acrobat® 7.0 Standard.

Optimised paper management
Additional functionalities of the ScanSnap S500M include automatic colour detection where the scanned format is determined by the colour content of the document, ensuring storage capacity is minimised which can then be further reduced through automatic compression. Automatic blank page detection will ensure that any scanned blank pages are automatically deleted if so desired; if a page contains text elements then automatic page rotation will ensure scanned images appear the right way up in either landscape or portrait, whilst automatic de-skew re-aligns any documents that may have been scanned at a slight angle.

The ScanSnap S500M recognises the precise size of each document and creates and appropriate PDF file, even if the batch being scanned contains multiple-sized documents. With its small footprint, roughly the size of an A4 piece of paper, the ScanSnap S500M will comfortably sit on any desktop making it an optimal solution for efficient and convenient day-to-day scanning.

Price and availability
The Fujitsu ScanSnap S500M is available immediately for a recommended sales price of € 449 plus VAT. For more information about Fujitsu Europe Limited or our products, please visit the Internet under Images of the ScanSnap S500M are available in the Internet under
