Fujitsu Server BS2000 SE340

FUJITSU Server BS2000 SE340 400x400The SE Server SE340 provides the required resources for the simultaneous operation of one or more BS2000 operating systems in a highly scalable manner in the lower and medium performance range on the basis of high-end Intel x86 technology. With its 1-16 BS2000 processors and increased system performance, it is suitable for applications with low to medium performance requirements. It offers the same advantages in manageability, integration, flexibility and availability as the SE740 server line.

The high-availability infrastructure provides all the necessary system components that are crucial for cost-effective operation of the overall application. In this way, all applications or application parts can use the optimal system platform without giving up the central administration of the systems.

For application systems whose components run on different IT platforms, the unique architecture concept of the SE series provides the optimal platform for both classic mainframe applications and standard x86 applications. At the same time, the modular design of the SE340 infrastructure opens up completely new application possibilities in the data center for companies.

  • x86-based Server Units for BS2000 applications
  • x86-based Application Units for operation under Linux, Windows or VMware ESXi
  • Shared tape or disk peripherals
  • Fast server-internal infrastructure for connecting the SE Units to each other and to the data networks in the data center

A key objective in the development of the SE Servers was a uniform management concept that offers maximum integration and ensures very economical IT operation. This includes cross-system administration with a modern browser-based interface as a single point of operation, common system monitoring of all components, a common service procedure and all options for consolidation through virtualization. A further development stage is the support of management clusters for the central operation and administration of multiple SE Servers and live migration clusters for the non-disruptive relocation of running BS2000 guest systems from one SE Server to another. In this way, the new SE340 Servers permit particularly stable system operation, which not only includes the mainframe platforms already known as particularly fail-safe, but also application units and the infrastructure and peripherals used by the SE Server.

As complete HW/SW packages, the SE340 models are equipped with all the necessary components to support convenient and efficient BS2000 operation. In addition to internal SSDs as additional BS2000 hard disks, which are directly connected to the SE340 via RAID1 systems and a very compact MBK unit (e.g. ETERNUS LT140-42U) for automated backup, midrange and enterprise storage systems of the ETERNUS DX series can also be connected via Fibre Channel.

Likewise, MBK libraries and the ETERNUS CS High-End tape storage virtualization solution can also be connected via Fibre Channel.

With the Fujitsu BS2000 SE340 server, multiple Application Units (AU) can be optionally deployed, which enable the use of a variety of additive usage scenarios.

For the SE340 the BS2000 operating system package OS DX V1.0B is to be used. Read more about the BS2000 operating system packages.
