Symfoware Server Technology

Architecture

Symfoware Server operates a database cluster and backup as a single instance, for database reliability:

  • Database cluster
    • This refers to the database storage area that is located on a database disk. The database cluster is a set of databases being managed as an instance.
  • Redundancy via Mirroring Controller (Enterprise Edition)
    • Full data mirroring enables continuous job processing with no downtime when an error occurs. Switches to the secondary server within seconds of an error occurring. The secondary server can be used for referencing data.
  • Backup
    • This refers to a copy of the database cluster. The backup contains the data necessary for recovering a database when an error occurs.
  • Client
    • The client resources include a connection service file, password file and CA certificate file.

The database cluster and backup that make up an instance are physically located on different disks. This is so data can be recovered from the alternative disk if an error occurs, guaranteeing database reliability.

Industry standard Features

Failover

Symfoware Server supports 1:1 standby failover.

  • Failover allows database operations to continue if an error occurs on the active system, so highly reliable systems can be constructed.
  • If an error occurs on a node, the standby feature initiates and transfers operation.
  • The file system is on a GDS volume (shared disk), mounted on node 1 only. The Symfoware Server data directories, tablespaces and backup directories resources are located on this file system.

Performance Monitoring

Performance information is fully utilized as it is based on the Symfoware support knowledge base. This helps the user to quickly identify the performance issue and then improve performance by using the information in the view table.

The following information can be easily obtained and analysed:

  • Number of SQL statements issued
  • Frequency of WAL buffer deficiency
  • Frequency of lock wait
  • Frequency of latch wait

Full Data Mirroring using Mirroring Controller Option (Enterprise Edition)

This enables seamless job processing with no downtime when an error occurs on the primary server. If a hard drive fails the data is protected by the synchronization of the data across two servers. The switch to the secondary server takes place in a few seconds without inhibiting business operations.

In addition to this, during normal operation the secondary server can be used for referencing data, this all adds to performance and reliability gains.

Security Technology

Symfoware Server protects your all important data from malicious attack by utilizing the latest security world standards.

  • Re-encrypting data when changing the encryption key is not required.
  • Modification of existing business applications by using a dual-key structure is not required.
  • A maximum security level is attained by using 256-bit encryption keys.

Symfoware Server fulfils requirements for the “Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard” (PCI DSS).

  • Confidential information (such as credit card numbers) can be made unrecognizable.
  • The encryption key and data are managed as separate entities.
  • The encryption key is also replaced at regular intervals.

  • Data is automatically encrypted and decrypted as it is written and read. Therefore, manual key management and encryption or decryption is not required. This is called TDE (Transparent Data Encryption).
  • With transparent data encryption, you can encrypt the application data without having to modify the application.
