Kawasaki and Nagoya, Japan, August 2, 2010 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Nagoya University today announced the development of technology that enables high-speed detection of toxic proteins that cause food poisoning. A new sensor that detects the presence of toxic proteins was manufactured, by employing a combination of artificial antibodies (DNA aptamers) which capture the toxic proteins, with a signal converter which converts those "capturing events" of captured toxins into optical signals. The new sensor enables detection of toxic proteins 100 times faster than with previous methods. This new technology can be used for shipment inspections of various foods to enable faster and more accurate inspections, thus contributing to better food safety.

Tokyo, June 8, 2010 – Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Frontech Limited today announced that Credit Saison Co., Ltd., one of Japan's largest credit card companies, will be deploying 250 of Fujitsu's compact FACT-V X100 ATM machines, which include an attached coin unit and boast the fastest bill processing performance, in Japan. Starting in March 2010, Credit Saison began to roll out the ATM units at locations such as shopping centers and inside train stations. The company is planning to deploy the machines at approximately 200 locations by June 2010.

The new technology, the first of its kind in the world, works by inducing a cyclical motion in negatively charged DNA and measuring its movement, to enable quick detection of proteins. The human body contains tens of thousands of different types of proteins, each playing an important role. By measuring fluctuations in proteins that are associated with certain diseases, it will be possible to offer diagnoses that are more accurate, enable earlier detection of the presence of diseases, and prescribe treatments that are more effective. As this technology can accurately measure proteins in just 1/100th the time of previous methods, it is expected to have a significant impact on health maintenance and disease prevention. Tokyo, January 20, 2010 – Fujitsu today announced that it has provided Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with software as a service (SaaS)-based solution for tracking cases of the H1N1 flu virus. The service was deployed less than one month after the system was proposed to the Ministry. Since then, the Ministry has been able to collect information on H1N1 cases more efficiently from each of their approximate 500 public health centers using the service. Centralizing the information has also enabled the fast accumulation of data essential in making decisions of national importance.
