  • Daiwa Institute of Research, Fujitsu, and KDDI Build Myanmar's First Cloud-Computing Environment Tokyo, Global, December, 25 2012 - Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. (DIR),Fujitsu Limited, and KDDI Corporation today announced that they have collaborated to build the Republic of the Union of Myanmar's first cloud computing environment. Built for the Central Bank of Myanmar, the new cloud environment is designed to improve efficiency in the bank's operations. It consists of a private cloud platform designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with the Alliance Cloud, a standardized cloud model certified by the DIR-led Global Alliance for User-driven Cloud Computing, as well as a desktop service that features security countermeasures.

  • Fujitsu is First Japanese Company to Join OpenADR2.0a Interoperability Test Sunnyvale, CA, and Kawasaki, Japan, Global, December, 03 2012 - Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. (FLA) and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., today announced that Fujitsu is the first Japanese company to demonstrate a system compliant with the OpenADR2.0a specification. The demonstration is part of the interoperability plug-in event at Grid-Interop 2012, the largest Smart Grid interoperability event in the United States, held in Irving, Texas between December 3rd and 6th, 2012. Grid-Interop is an annual forum organized by the GridWise Architecture Council (GWAC), which was formed by the U.S. Department of Energy to promote interoperability in the Smart Grid space.

  • Fujitsu Public Cloud Service Wins Chairperson's Award at Eco-Products Awards 2012 Tokyo, Global, November, 28 2012 - Fujitsu today announced that, in the 9th Eco-Products Awards, it has received the Chairperson's Award, Eco-Products Awards Steering Committee, in the Eco-Services Category for its public cloud service, Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform/S5 (FGCP/S5). The Awards are sponsored by the Eco-Products Awards Steering Committee and supported by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Ministry of the Environment. FGCP/S5 offers the same level of security and reliability as physical servers and is recognized for its ability to dramatically reduce energy consumption on a global scale.

  • K computer No. 1 in Three HPC Challenge Award Benchmarks Tokyo and Tsukuba, Japan, Global, November, 14 2012 - RIKEN, the University of Tsukuba, and Fujitsu today received top ranks in three of the four benchmarks at the 2012 HPC Challenge Awards for the performance of the K computer. The awards were announced on November 13 in Salt Lake City at SC12, the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis. The first-place rankings were received in the following three benchmarks used for evaluating the all-around performance of a supercomputer: (1) Global HPL, which measures the floating point rate of execution for solving a linear system of equations; (2) STREAM, which measures sustainable memory bandwidth and the corresponding computation rate for simple vector kernels; and (3) FFT, which measures the floating point rate of execution of double precision complex one-dimensional Discrete Fourier Transform. With this, the K computer demonstrated, for the second consecutive year, high performance as a general-purpose supercomputer.

  • Fujitsu Develops Eye Tracking Technology Kawasaki, Japan, Global, October, 02 2012 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced development of eye tracking technology that takes advantage of compact, inexpensive cameras and light-emitting diodes (LED) embedded in PCs. Up until now, tracking eye movements required a specialized camera and LED, the prohibitive cost and size of which made it difficult to use in PCs and other general-purpose products. Moreover, less expensive equipment was of insufficient quality, and blurred images meant poor detection accuracy. Now, however, using a near-infrared LED and the type of compact, inexpensive camera that comes as a standard feature in many PCs, Fujitsu Laboratories has developed image processing technology that can overcome blurred images to accurately detect the pupil of the eye. As a result, an eye tracking device can be embedded into the frame of a PC screen without detracting from the PC's design, enabling a new and natural non-contact PC interface in which, for example, screen zooming and scrolling based on where one is looking are possible.

  • Fujitsu Launches Manufacturing Innovation Team Services Tokyo, Global, October, 01 2012 - Fujitsu today announced the immediate availability of a new line of service offerings for the Japanese market based on the company's "Manufacturing Innovation Team" concept, which was unveiled in May 2012.
