In 2003, Fujitsu developed the first contactless palm vein pattern authentication technology in the world. In the following year, it was released as a commercial product in Japan, and in 2005 Fujitsu began sales of PalmSecure as a globally-standardized brand. Since palm veins are numerous and complex, this product uses highly-advanced technology for their identification. It also utilizes information patterns which are different for each individual, making them difficult to falsify and impossible to be used maliciously by anyone else. This has led to its frequent application in fields with private requirements for high-level security, such as in governmental and public fields and by financial institutions.
