PRIMEPOWER HPC2500 (2002)
A large-scale parallel scalar supercomputer introduced in 2002 for HPC, as the highest-level PRIMEPOWER UNIX server machine. It used SPARC64 V processors, with performance of 665.6 GFLOPS when memory was shared using 1 node composed of 128 processors, and was able to achieve the highest level of performance in the world of 85.1 TFLOPS when 128 nodes were linked together using high-speed optical interconnects (16,384 processors). It supported system transitions through measures such as providing the XPFortran parallel compiler for shifts from vector supercomputers to the PRIMEPOWER HPC2500.
