In the 1990s, the shift to open systems was advancing, and in time open systems began to be used even for mission-critical applications such as core business operations. Ever since the age of mainframes, Fujitsu had focused on mission-critical systems requiring 24-hour, 365-day stable operation. This prompted the release of the high-reliability database SymfoWARE (later “Symfoware”) in 1995, which was able to perform recovery operations reliably and quickly no matter which resources a problem occurred at, without the need to shut down the system.
