This was a magnetic disk unit completed in 1981, and was the first in the world to use small 10.5-inch diameter disks. The technical skill cultivated by Fujitsu over many years was pooled together for its development, which reduced the size of all media and heads, and employed an integrated type of magnetic disks known as a Disk Enclosure (DE), a structure which revolutionized the existing concepts of design. The FACOM6421 was also released in the U.S. under the name “EAGLE”, and showed strong sales performance.
