These were developed for use with the FACOM M-190 and Amdahl 470V/6 computers completed in 1975, the first in the world which were completely based on LSIs. In 2012, they were recognized in the Fourth Information Processing Technology Heritage Certification by the Information Processing Society of Japan. Under joint development by Fujitsu and U.S. company Amdahl, the MB11K achieved high density and high performance far surpassing the average levels at the time. One innovation that allowed this was the composite heat dissipation fins mounted at the upper part of its characteristic shape, designed as a measure for addressing heat generation brought by high density and high speed of LSIs.
