Fujitsu’s Global Delivery Center (GDC) in the Philippines has been recognized for outstanding environmental performance, outstanding community projects, and has received a special citation COVID-19 response award from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

In the Philippines, Fujitsu’s GDC is committed to making the world sustainable. It focuses on building trust in society through innovation and supporting the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Employees at the Philippines GDC implement community activities under Fujitsu’s Global Delivery Responsible Business Program (known as GRiP) Community Pillar, which aims to empower, engage, and enable communities, even amidst the Covid pandemic.

Environmental Programs

The PEZA outstanding environmental performance award is given to a company in the Philippine Economic Zone Authority region that has demonstrated sustained environmental management and implemented environmental projects/outreach programs. Fujitsu’s GDC in the Philippines has been certified to ISO 14001 – Environment Management since 2015 and has since implemented comprehensive plans to minimize the environmental impact of its operations. Notable environmental projects include partnering with government and non-governmental organizations to plant trees, clean-up drives, and outreach programs to inform, educate and facilitate involvement in environmental initiatives. Even with the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Fujitsu GDC Philippines continued to raise awareness and partnered with organizations to support environmental conservation efforts.

Arlene Gregorio, Head of Fujitsu GDC in the Philippines, comments: “It is an honor to be recognized by PEZA for the third consecutive year. These awards help inspire our Fujitsu Team to redouble our efforts related to environmental stewardship and community volunteering, including sharing our Covid-19 response methodology.”

Community Projects

The PEZA Outstanding Community Projects Award recognizes social welfare programs that benefit the Filipino community. Outreach projects undertaken by Fujitsu’s GDC in the Philippines include educational activities. In 2020, Fujitsu GDC Philippines swiftly adjusted to virtual teaching for its partner schools, including an orphanage with youth centers across the country. Fujitsu created online immersion classes on the different facets of Japanese culture, classes on English proficiency and Microsoft Office applications.

Fujitsu GDC Philippines also partnered with schools to deliver technical training, mentoring, inspirational/career talks. This initiative is alongside its communications campaign, mentoring and immersive technology programs. GDC employees also taught other transferable work skills, including understanding Australian and Japanese culture, automation, HTML, Python, networks, and presentation skills. These formed part of its Women in Tech program focused on improving gender diversity and inclusion globally.

COVID-19 Response

The special citation COVID-19 response award is a new category awarded for commendable efforts in establishing and implementing policies and programs to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. Fujitsu GDC Philippines was quick to respond and adapt to the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the coronavirus outbreak, Fujitsu GDC Philippines has developed measures and incorporated them into its business processes to ensure the safety of all its employees. These programs cover business continuity, policy planning, risk assessment, and communication plans, in addition to processes to handle suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases and policies to address the prevention and migration of COVID-19 cases unique to Fujitsu’s GDC in the Philippines.
