Fundamental approach to the Environment

Fujitsu has made environmental protection a top management priority with clear environmental goals set for all business areas. Only through this commitment can the company contribute to the creation of a sustainable environment for future generations.

It is Fujitsu’s vision to create a prosperous, low-carbon future. The way to achieve this is through our Green Policy Innovation program, generating IT innovations that reduce society's environmental footprint and the impact of IT itself through.

  • Work on global environmental conservation
  • Tackling climate change
  • Preservation of biodiversity

Environmental Targets

As early as 1993 the company was establishing the foundation for environmental management and quickly became a pioneer in creating a recycling-oriented society. Fujitsu’s targets soon evolved to cover not just environmental concerns but also sustainability - at all touch-points in the product lifecycle. By 2007 the focus on environmental innovation began bringing truly revolutionary products to the market. As of 2010 Fujitsu has published the measures to reduce the burden of Fujitsu Group, its customers and society put on the environment.
Fujitsu’s approach addresses each phase of the lifecycle:

Environmental TargetsDesign - environmentally conscious IT products and components for the whole product lifecycle through common Eco Design guidelines
Production - reducing energy consumption and waste
Transport - reducing greenhouse gas emissions, domestic and international
Use - provide and use products to save energy and protect the environment
Return – promote and encourage product remarketing, recycling and recovery
At all levels this approach is underpinned through a management system based on international standards for Quality Management, Environmental Management, IT Service Management and Information Security Management.

Design

Fujitsu carefully considers environmental impact at every stage of the product lifecycle, but the most important stage is the initial design.

Production

The Fujitsu factory in Augsburg has set many standards in manufacturing excellence over the years, not least through efforts to save energy, reduce waste and optimize water usage, thereby reducing the overall impact on the environment.

Transport

Fujitsu continuously seeks to improve and optimize inbound and outbound logistical efficiencies; these play not a crucial role in business success, but also in terms of environmental impact.

Use

Energy saving has emerged as one of the most critical elements on the IT agenda.

Return

When a product reaches end-of-life for one customer, that life can just be beginning for another.
