Fujitsu Launches SaaS-Based Inventory Operations Support System for the Logistics Industry

SaaS substantially reduces system development and operational costs

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, March 27, 2012

Fujitsu today announced the immediate availability of LOMOS/TM-SaaS, a service for the Japan logistics industry that provides inventory operations support.

The new service employs barcodes affixed to products in inventory and wireless handy terminals (wireless HHTs) to enhance the efficiency of operations such as inbound inspections, picking (transporting products from inventory in response to orders or shipping instructions), outbound inspections, stocktaking, and inventory transfers. This, in turn, enables exceptionally quick and accurate shipping and improved service quality for recipients, while at the same time offering paperless operations through the deployment of wireless HHTs.

The service is provided as a SaaS-based solution that leverages the Fujitsu Group's highly reliable datacenters. As a result, customers do not have to build and operate their own systems, thereby enabling rapid rollout of service at a low cost. This makes it easily deployable for small and mid-sized businesses that have hesitated to deploy an IT system due to cost and operational workload concerns.

LOMOS/TM-SaaS was developed by Fujitsu Advanced Engineering Limited, which possesses a wealth of experience in developing systems for the logistics industry.

In recent years, in an effort to enhance service quality for recipients, companies in the logistics industry have taken measures to improve shipment accuracy and to shorten the time between shipping order receipt and delivery. Companies have therefore been deploying systems to enhance the efficiency of inventory operations. At the same time, the deployment costs and operational workload required to bring together the servers, software, PCs and other components needed to build an ICT system has become a challenge.

To address these issues, Fujitsu is releasing LOMOS/TM-SaaS, a low-cost, quickly deployable SaaS-type inventory operational support system that allows companies to reduce their operational workloads.

Service Features

1. Enhances the efficiency of inventory operations

Using barcodes and wireless HHT technology, the new service improves the efficiency of on-site logistics operations, such as inbound inspections, picking, outbound inspections, stocktaking, and inventory transfers. Workers can collect data by simply scanning product barcodes using the wireless HHTs. Moreover, through standardized operations, companies are able to improve shipment accuracy and shorten delivery times.

2. Rapid and low-cost deployment as a SaaS-based service

Customers do not need to purchase hardware to build an ICT system or install software at each of their offices, which means that the service can be easily employed with just an Internet-enabled PC and a required wireless HHT. As a result, they can quickly begin using the service while keeping upfront costs low.

3. Delivered as a SaaS from Fujitsu's highly reliable datacenters

A range of operational instruction, performance and other types of data are managed in Fujitsu's datacenters, which are the foundation for Fujitsu cloud services business. These datacenters are subject to robust facility management and strict security measures, and as such customers can use this service with confidence.

4. Reassuring 24/7 support desk

The Fujitsu Group's Logistics Service and Support Center is available 24/7 to handle customer inquiries, thereby helping to support stable customer operations.
