With nothing seeming to stop the growth of high-speed networks, processor performance and the spread of information around the world; the potential for data to keep on being loaded into ever increasing databases continues. But if all of this is to remain practical, ways need to be found to maintain your IT spend within budgets and improve current server lifecycle, operations management and maintenance costs.
Fujitsu Limited and Oracle Corporation together have addressed these issues using a combination of Fujitsu SPARC Enterprise and Oracle 11g. They have partnered quad-core SPARC64™ VII processors, green technology, highly efficient operation and innovative licensing to radically reduce costs in the datacenter. The result is an improved cost performance ratio that needs your serious investigation.
For full details of the Fujitsu and Oracle verification tests, please refer to the white paper,

Joint benchmark testing by Fujitsu and Oracle in Japan has proved that Fujitsu SPARC Enterprise M3000 with Oracle 11g outperforms previous SPARC/Solaris servers such as PRIMEPOWER 250 by a factor of 3.5. This means you can consolidate three existing PRIMEPOWER database servers into just one SPARC Enterprise M3000. This greatly simplifies your server operation, shrinks datacenter costs and provides some additional leeway for further growth.

While server consolidation onto high-performance SPARC Enterprise servers with shrink your datacenter costs; such consolidation will also benefit the following:
| PRIMEPOWER 250 (2 chips / 2 cores / 2U) |
SPARC Enterprise M3000 (1 chip / 4 cores / 2U) |
|
|---|---|---|
| Number of units | 3 | 1 |
| Power consumption (Watt) | 1,890 | 460 (200VAC) |
| Heat generation (kJ) | 6,804 | 1,656 (200VAC) |
| Space requirement | 6U | 2U |
| The number of Oracle support licenses (Processor licenses) * |
6 | 1 |
* These figures show number of Oracle Upgrade & support Licenses (Processor Licenses) for relevant server products. Both PRIMEPOWER 250 and SPARC Enterprise M3000 can use Oracle Standard One. Based on processor licensing requirements PRIMEPOWER 250 requires six, while SPARC Enterprise M3000 requires only one.
In managing all enterprise data, mission-critical database servers must also be able to manage data growth while ensuring fast data access. The combination of SPARC Enterprise and Oracle11g will provide you with the swift data access necessary for large-scale databases.
