  • Wärtsilä expects to benefit from operational efficiencies, improved all-round agility of its IT systems, and a workplace that will attract and retain employees
Helsinki/Munich, November 20, 2019 – Fujitsu today announces a major global digital workplace and managed infrastructure services agreement with the technology group Wärtsilä1. The initial three-year contract will support Wärtsilä’s digital transformation, leveraging Fujitsu’s expertise in Multi-Cloud and Hybrid IT. In addition, Wärtsilä expects the new deal with Fujitsu to boost operational agility and efficiency and deliver an innovative new digital workplace.

As part of the agreement with Wärtsilä, Fujitsu will deliver the latest managed workplace services, designed to enhance productivity and end-user satisfaction by focusing on providing an outstanding, end-to-end user experience. Fujitsu managed services included in the agreement involve wide-ranging self-service features, automation and predictive maintenance plus helpdesk and support services.

Wärtsilä chose to partner with Fujitsu as it implements an IT infrastructure easily able to scale and adapt to changing market conditions, in line with employees’ needs. To achieve this, Fujitsu is establishing a robust hybrid IT environment, creating the future flexibility to integrate existing on-premises services with cloud services in cases where these offer greater productivity, value and service for Wärtsilä’s customers.

Support for Microsoft Windows 10 desktops, laptops and virtual desktops will be underpinned by a service desk plus comprehensive on site-support, maintenance and repair services including “IM Guru Bars” – dedicated, on-site drop-in facilities for users at select locations, designed to provide on-the-spot resolution for technical issues. The resulting modern and flexible workplace solution will ensure that Wärtsilä can keep pace with industry challenges while using devices and applications that will help employees to work to their full potential.

The agreement with Fujitsu also maximizes Wärtsilä’s investment in information and communication technologies with optimized product deliveries and lifecycle services, and related infrastructure services, such as management of file, print and application servers, firewalls and network devices, backup services for remotes sites, and all centralized data center services.

Jukka Kumpulainen, Chief Information Officer at Wärtsilä, says: “By outsourcing global digital workplace services to Fujitsu, we will focus more on leveraging smart technology to deliver innovative solutions for our customers. Working collaboratively with Fujitsu as our trusted partner, we have designed a world-class IT infrastructure that gives us the agility to react quickly to market changes and develop exciting new solutions to our customers’ challenges.”

Simo Leisti, Managing Director at Fujitsu Finland, comments: “As a pioneer in the use of technology to support its business objectives, Wärtsilä recognizes the importance of both the workplace and its workforce to accelerate business transformation. Fujitsu is supporting the company in taking the next step towards digital transformation, through the co-creation of a modern, efficient working environment designed to attract and retain the best talent. Wärtsilä will also benefit from a flexible hybrid IT infrastructure capable of providing the basis for ongoing Cloud innovation, so that the company can continue to deliver cutting-edge customer solutions.”

The comprehensive contract with Wärtsilä leverages Fujitsu’s extensive expertise across its entire portfolio of solutions – with Gartner recognizing Fujitsu as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Data Center Outsourcing and Hybrid Infrastructure Managed Services, Europe, the Magic Quadrant for Managed Mobility Services, Global and the Magic Quadrant for Managed Workplace Services, Europe.
