Fujitsu Introduces Biometric PalmSecure ID Access Device to Europe

Fujitsu EMEIA

Luxembourg, September 20, 2016 –Fujitsu today introduces the PalmSecure ID Access to Europe, an off-the-shelf biometric device that can be easily deployed by enterprises and SMEs to replace or enhance existing facility access control. PalmSecure ID Access comprises a terminal with integrated PalmSecure sensor, to authenticate an individual’s identity based on a contactless palm scan. The PalmSecure ID Access solution can be quickly and easily integrated into existing hardware infrastructures.
Biometric authentication offers a high degree of accuracy compared to traditional authentication methods that are based on pin codes or passwords, keys or access cards. It is user-friendly and hygienic and unlike traditional access methods, there are no elements that can be lost, shared, duplicated or stolen. Businesses are able to link actions to specific individuals and can eliminate the wasted time associated with forgotten passwords.
The PalmSecure ID Access device, the PSN900, is based on Fujitsu’s award winning 1 biometric palm vein scanning technology. It comprises a sleek terminal with integrated PalmSecure sensor and touchscreen and is available in different configurations to deliver multi-factor authentication. Options include the incorporation of readers for either Mifare cards or HID proximity cards. Alternatively the device can be configured with just the PalmSecure sensor.
Pricing and availability
PalmSecure ID Access is available immediately in EMEIA. Pricing depends on country and configuration.

Fujitsu’s PalmSecure Technology
The PalmSecure uses near-infrared light to scan the pattern of oxygen-depleted blood running through the veins in a user’s hand. A proprietary algorithm then uses this image to generate a unique biometric template. User identities are confirmed by matching templates against a database of pre-registered users. PalmSecure user registration takes less than a minute and authentication is completed in less than one second, which is much faster and less error-prone than typing in a secure password.
Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology is highly secure, since palm veins are hidden under the skin and are not easily visible to the eye. Patterns do not change and are unique to each individual. Palm veins in particular are complex and can provide more than five million separate reference points. What’s more is that the scanner can only recognize a pattern when blood is actively flowing through a user’s veins, which means that forgery is virtually impossible.
The technology is highly intuitive, easy to use and has proven popular with users since it is contactless, therefore also helping prevent the spread of germs, which are often transmitted by hand. PalmSecure is also unaffected by external factors such as skin types, palm temperature and cuts or scratches on the skin
