Fujitsu Enhances Easy Access to Market-leading Data Protection

Standardizing on Symantec Backup Exec helps Fujitsu PRIMERGY server and ETERNUS storage customers to better protect and restore their data

Munich, March 24, 2011

Fujitsu today announced that it is providing PRIMERGY server and ETERNUS storage customers with enhanced access to the market-leading data protection suite Backup Exec from Symantec, making it easier to back up and protect vital business data.

With immediate effect, Fujitsu is offering Backup Exec as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) product, providing the software together with its high-performance and reliable ETERNUS storage systems and PRIMERGY x86 servers across Central Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. Fujitsu offers a QuickStart version of Backup Exec as a cost-efficient entry point for customers. Customers who need more advanced versions offering more feature options including support for VMware/HyperV, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint and SQL server, can take advantage of an anytime upgrade.

The announcement means that customers are better enabled to streamline data management, and fully utilize their existing IT investments. Fujitsu will also offer one--year support contracts, giving customers both peace of mind and one-stop-shop options. Resellers and distributors will also benefit from new attractive business opportunities and additional customer value delivered by bundling Symantec’s backup and restore functionality with Fujitsu systems at an attractive price. A new Global Solution Reseller Agreement for Backup Exec is part of an expanded Global Strategic Alliance Agreement first announced in February 2010 between Fujitsu and Symantec, one of just five global Fujitsu partners. The relationship has already resulted in the integration of Fujitsu ETERNUS CS800 with Symantec Backup Exec and Symantec NetBackup, providing small and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers with a powerful disk-based backup solution that is also flexible and easy-to manage.

Marketing and sales activities provide further support, including Fujitsu’s popular ‘Make IT Dynamic’ program covering a choice of IT infrastructure building blocks based on PRIMERGY server and ETERNUS DX disk storage systems, which offer the scalability to grow with the business requirements. These server and storage packages are linked to integrated, pre-tested solutions for EASY Backup, EASY Virtualization, EASY SAN, EASY High Availability, and EASY Business Continuity.

Says Dr. Rolf Strotmann, Vice President Enterprise Server and Software Business at Fujitsu Technology Solutions: “ The combination with Backup Exec is a further enhancement to Fujitsu’s range of Efficient Data Protection solutions targeted at small to medium-sized enterprises. They enable customers to create, implement and maintain future-proofed dynamic infrastructures tailored to their data protection needs, including disk-based backup. This announcement also helps unlock new business opportunities for our channel partners. [SJ2]

Says Amit Walia, Vice President of Product Management for Backup Exec at Symantec: “Working closely with Fujitsu underlines our commitment to jointly develop solutions that enable customers to maximize the value of their IT investments. The recently signed new OEM contract is a further milestone on that path.”
