Fujitsu Accelerates PRIMERGY High Performance Computing in EMEA

Fujitsu acquires HPC consulting and integration firm and offers customers better global services

Munich, April 12, 2011

Fujitsu today further extends its High Performance Computing (HPC) consulting and integration services, which enable engineers and scientists to achieve breakthrough innovation. Fujitsu is securing exclusive access to unique market expertise and accelerating the expansion of its customer base through the acquisition of ICT AG, an Aachen-based specialist HPC consulting and integration firm.

The acquisition, effective April 1, 2011, reinforces Fujitsu’s commitment to the HPC market in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA), where Fujitsu offers a complete x86 PRIMERGY server-based HPC stack, including rack and blade server systems, middleware and InfiniBand networks. This portfolio is now bolstered by adding dedicated new expertise in benchmarking, certification and integration.

Fujitsu’s European HPC offerings are based on more than three decades of HPC experience and innovation, having deployed some of the most powerful computer systems, notably in Japan where the company is the HPC market leader. In addition to computer-aided engineering, Fujitsu supports compute-intensive fields where HPC solutions are in increasing demand including biometrics, financial risk modeling and the creation of digital content, especially 3D computer graphics.

Says Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President Datacenter Systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions: “HPC is an exciting market for growth, and we expect it to account for 20 per cent of our x86 server business over the next year. By adding ICT’s extensive HPC expertise and market access to Fujitsu’s PRIMERGY server-based HPC stack, we are helping our customers to simulate faster, develop more successfully, and be quicker to market.”

ICT’s customers can now draw on the global network of Fujitsu competence centers and a wide range of partners. For example, the Universities of Wales last week selected Fujitsu to create a unique GBP15 million world-class HPC infrastructure plus associated services, in a project of strategic importance to the welsh economy, creating super-computing capability and capacity across Wales, accessible to both universities and industry.

Fujitsu offers a rich choice of HPC platforms. These include the Fujitsu PRIMERGY CX1000 , a highly-scalable cloud server infrastructure platform, and the single-chassis dynamic server infrastructure Fujitsu PRIMERGY BX900 system. Enterprises looking for the shortest-possible deployment timeframe can select Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX200 rack servers as the building blocks for their HPC clusters. Founded in Aachen, Germany, in 1985, ICT (Information Communications Technology) AG specializes in planning, development and marketing of HPC computer systems and components, including system and application software.
