PRIMERGY CX1000 Technical Backgrounder

Specs, speeds and feeds for the new Cloud eXtension server class

Munich/Brühl/Tokyo, March 17, 2010

Fujitsu took server design back to basics to provide the new PRIMERGY CX1000 with unprecedented levels of scale-out capability and set new standards in datacenter economics by optimizing the operating cost drivers of power, heat and space.

The PRIMERGY CX1000 packs extreme levels of performance into a standard-size rack chassis – with a capacity for 38 standard 1U rack height computing nodes: PRIMERGY CX120 S1 server trays. The system is ready for the new generation Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series, which delivers unprecedented levels of processing power.

Built using off-the-shelf components, the design concept of the PRIMERGY CX120 S1 cloud computing nodes is to replace the entire tray in case of system failure – then replace faulty components offline. Adding and removing server trays is a snap, thanks to the PRIMERGY CX1000’s shared infrastructure – with centralized power distri-bution, networking and cooling.

Technical details

Each PRIMERGY CX120 S1 node offers the following maximum specification:

Processors: Each dual-socket PRIMERGY CX120 S1 node contains the latest-generation Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series (code name Westmere-EP).

Memory capacity: 8 slots (3 channels per CPU with 4 DIMMs per CPU = 8 DIMMs in total), providing 16GB or 64GB per node.

Disk capacity: 2 x 2.5-inch non hot-plug SATA HDDs each with a capacity of up to 500GB.

Network: up to 5 x Gbit/s Ethernet; 2x Onboard + 1x dedicated service LAN optional + 1 x Dualport Gbit/s Ethernet on PCI-e extension card optional

Provides cost savings of 20 percent and more in power and cooling in comparison to a standard rack server assembly, depending on system configuration

Operating systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2.
