Fujitsu’s ETERNUS DX440 Smashes Storage Price-Performance World Record

New independent benchmark shows Fujitsu’s Dynamic Infrastructures’ cornerstone is fast and cost efficient

Munich, April 26, 2010

Independent benchmark results published today show that Fujitsu’s ETERNUS DX440 is not only the world’s fastest* dual controller mid-range disk storage system, but also has the world’s best price/performance ratio*. With high-end enterprise features and multi-platform support, the speedy ETERNUS DX440 resolves IT administrators’ needs for high-performing storage while also capping costs.

Today’s data centers have to handle the demands of server virtualization, Cloud computing, growing numbers of users and ever-growing amounts of data that must be stored, backed-up and archived. Unless storage systems are fast enough to cope then performance bottlenecks will occur – which underlines the importance of the Fujitsu ETERNUS DX440’s world record performance results.

Customers are using Fujitsu ETERNUS DX440 systems to protect mixed applications in heterogeneous computing environments featuring transaction-oriented applications such as databases, mail-servers, banking and telecoms environments and high activity online processing. Through certified multi-platform support for a wide range of servers and operating systems, ETERNUS DX440 also simplifies implementation, allowing customers to save time and money.

Dr Helmut Beck, Vice President Storage Business at Fujitsu Technology Solutions says: “Although server performance has increased a million-fold over the last 50 years, disk read-write rates are barely 100 times better – which is why we paid particular attention to maximizing disk performance when designing the ETERNUS DX range. The results speak for themselves. The new world record, in addition to high-end enterprise-class features such as Thin Provisioning and remote replication between mid-range and enterprise systems, makes the ETERNUS DX440 a compelling choice.”

The new world record is published by SPC. The SPC-1 Benchmark provides an objective and verifiable assessment of ETERNUS DX440’s leading price-performance ratio. Applicable across a broad range of storage configurations, the benchmark tests storage subsystem performance when dealing with complex, business-critical workloads.

* As measured by the Storage Performance Council’s SPC Benchmark 1 (SPC-1).

Notes to editors:

In the IOPS Throughput SPC-1 test, the Fujitsu ETERNUS DX440 set a new world record by achieving a performance of 97498 SPC-1 IOPS under 100% load and a price-performance ratio of $5.51/SPC-1 IOPS™.

The Storage Performance Council (SPC) is a nonprofit corporation founded to define, standardize and promote storage product benchmarks and to disseminate objective, verifiable performance data to the computer industry and its customers. The organization's strategic objectives are to empower storage vendors to build better products and stimulate the IT community to more rapidly trust and deploy multivendor storage technology.
