Fujitsu PRIMERGY ‘Virtualization Powerhouse’ For Every Need

Fujitsu PRIMERGY solutions for comprehensive virtualization scenarios – increase agility and reduce costs

Munich, April 21, 2010

Fujitsu today starts shipping the new generation of tower, rack and blade servers, designed to deliver businesses a ‘Virtualization Powerhouse’ capable of running even the most-complex virtualized server environments. The massive performance advantage of new Fujitsu PRIMERGY dual-socket systems - comprising the fastest processors, the highest I/O output, the most energy-efficient power supplies, and the largest disk capacities in the new Fujitsu ETERNUS JX40 storage subsystems - is also backed by Fujitsu’s optimization service.

Server virtualization dramatically improves the efficiency and availability of resources and applications, and can shrink power and administrative costs. Organizations can respond to changing market dynamics faster and more efficiently than ever before with Dynamic Infrastructures comprising Fujitsu hardware, solutions and services. For example, the Fujitsu Optimization service quickly helps customers to access and quantify their needs, design and test selected infrastructure configurations, then to implement the changes and integrate with existing platforms.

With virtualization now a reality for most businesses today, customers are moving from experimenting with non-critical virtualization projects, to consolidating more sophisticated virtualization scenarios for even richer rewards.  Breaking through the performance limitations of lesser servers that can cause virtualized environments to freeze or fail, the most-powerful-ever PRIMERGY dual-socket systems pack the end-to-end server power to replace entire racks of legacy machines.

Says Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice-President x86 Server Product Unit at Fujitsu Technology Solutions: “ Businesses are under incredible pressure from all sides today – challenging competition, tight budgets, juggling people and know-how, or minimizing power consumption and energy costs. The new generation of x86 PRIMERGY dual-socket servers, especially the PRIMERGY BX922 S2 server blades for the Dynamic Cube, deliver across-the-board performance leaps that meet these needs by providing a true ‘Virtualization Powerhouse’.”

Featuring the latest-generation Intel Xeon 5600 processor series, the refreshed PRIMERGY range is comprised of the tower server TX300 S6, the rack servers RX200 S6 and RX300 S6, and the blade servers for the “Dynamic Cube”, the BX920 S2 and BX922 S2. Intended to meet growing capacity requirements, each platform is expandable with the newly/introduced Fujitsu ETERNUS JX40 storage subsystems. These highly-compact units provide the fastest 6 Gbit/s SAS direct attached storage capacities of up to 72TB on standard 2.5” PRIMERGY server disk drives.

The new systems demonstrate that consolidation to fully-virtualized server environments is now within reach of standard x86-based servers, which also provide a huge price advantage over more expensive UNIX-based systems.

The New PRIMERGY BX922 S2

Due to its large main-memory capacity (up to 12 DIMM modules), and comprehensive hardware-based virtualization support features, the new PRIMERGY BX922 S2 is designed to provide a cornerstone investment for enterprises requiring highly-virtualized Dynamic Infrastructures. The PRIMERGY BX922 S2 enables optimal virtualization through a combination of the latest hardware and software features, capable of using up to two CPUs in the new Intel Xeon 5600 processor series with up to 6 cores. The advantages of virtualization software packages, such as VMware vSphere 4, can be fully exploited with the optimized PRIMERGY BX922 S2. Server administration across physical and virtual machines is also simplified by the Fujitsu ServerView Resource Coordinator VE or Virtual Edition, which is also now available for purchase.

The challenges facing today’s enterprises makes the traditional IT infrastructure extremely difficult to manage. Continually adding more boxes, cables and people yields high costs due to under-used hardware, plus expensive space, power, and cooling processes, not to mention personnel-intensive administration. The PRIMERGY BX922 S2 is designed for today’s data center which demands reliable and innovative platforms that enable enterprises to do more with less – providing maximum performance and maximum redundancy, but with only minimum space requirements, high energy efficiency, and a reduction in the time and effort required for cabling.
