Fujitsu Launches Comprehensive Managed SAP IT Infrastructure Service

Efficient operation of SAP environments – Benefits include flexible delivery models and minimized risk

Munich, June 14, 2010

Fujitsu today announces that it will strengthen its SAP portfolio with the rollout of a comprehensive Managed SAP IT Infrastructure service designed to help larger mid-sized businesses and enterprises operate their SAP environments more efficiently, while at the same time reducing associated cost and risk factors.

Flexible enough to adapt to customers’ specific needs and changing market conditions, Managed SAP IT Infrastructure supports the operation of customers’ SAP system landscape – from consulting, planning and optimization right through to holistic IT service management.1 In the first wave of the international rollout, Fujitsu will offer the Managed SAP IT Infrastructure service in Austria, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.

With businesses increasingly looking for ways to smart source their IT needs, the Managed SAP IT Infrastructure service enables customers to access exactly the right mix of components to suit their needs, on a flexible, pay-per-use basis. Part of Fujitsu’s Dynamic Infrastructures portfolio of IT products, datacenter- and office solutions, and Infrastructure-as-a-Services and managed infrastructure components, customers can optimize their overall enterprise IT infrastructure architecture. This provides customers with the ultimate flexibility, efficiency and reliability of their IT systems, and enables more rapid response to ever changing business requirements.

The range of services offered includes managed SAP infrastructure operations, support and maintenance of SAP systems and databases, plus preventive services, such as backup, restore and disaster recovery. Furthermore, customers in central Europe can draw on the proven track record of TDS, a member of the Fujitsu group, for providing SAP consulting, implementation, application management and outsourcing services to mid-market customers.

Says Andre Kiehne, Vice President Services at Fujitsu Technology Solutions: “Our one-stop-shop for managing entire SAP infrastructures allows companies to focus once again on letting their IT power their business velocity, and not to be held to ransom by datacenter capacity and availability considerations. The strength of our underlying solutions, including FlexFrame for SAP, and the flexibility of delivery models make Fujitsu the best possible partner for Managed SAP IT infrastructures.”

As one of only three Global SAP Technology, Hosting and Service Partners, Fujitsu’s SAP infrastructure hosting services enable enterprises to align strategic IT requirements with data center capacity, and to overcome operational bottlenecks. Costs can be optimized by using combinations of on- and offshore delivery to comply with legal and other corporate requirements. Customers will benefits from the SAP expertise inside the Global network of Delivery Centers from Fujitsu which are fully integrated in the offering.

Managed SAP IT Infrastructure delivers flexibility

Increasingly, enterprises are prioritizing their internal IT resources on strategic and competitive innovations, and gaining from cost efficiencies by outsourcing day-to-day IT operations such as the management of SAP environments. Enterprises choosing Fujitsu’s Managed SAP IT Infrastructure gain a trustworthy and stable partner. Fujitsu has long-standing experience in the provision, integration, operation and maintenance of SAP environments, based on standardized infrastructures and service elements, and with clear focus on cost reduction and transparency.

Within a framework of flexible delivery models that take individual needs into account, enterprises can choose support and operational services either on-site or from Fujitsu’s own data centers; this includes infrastructure hosting supplemented by Infrastructure-as-a-Service offerings. Further highlights are for example an SLA-based helpdesk and automated resource provisioning.

Automated and virtualized operational concept for SAP applications - FlexFrame for SAP

The combination of Fujitsu’s FlexFrame for SAP and Managed SAP IT Infrastructure services as part of the Dynamic Infrastructures portfolio provides customers with unprecedented levels of efficiency, flexibility and agility that enable enterprises to quickly adapt to changing business needs and to reduce costs at the same time.

Fujitsu’s well established FlexFrame for SAP is a complete, pre-configured and pre-tested solution combining servers, storage, networking devices and all required software (i.e. operating system, SAP modules, and management software) in a lean and clear environment. Both the operating system and the SAP software reside on a central storage array from where they can be assigned to any server in the pool within minutes. Should an application fail, resources are automatically reallocated and the server is started on another physical or virtual machine without delay. Thus, customers will need only one or a few standby servers (N:1-, N:M-configurations) to keep their SAP systems ready-to-operate. Previously required cluster technologies no longer burden the budget, while centralized management and a multitude of virtualization options simplify operations, increase efficiency and enhance system availability – all at a fraction of the cost traditional implementations would cause. The solution can grow in small steps without unnecessary pre-investments and reduces installation and maintenance efforts.
