Fujitsu Expands New Zero Client Portfolio with Two New Models

With the most independent Zero Client Computing platform and a highly scalable architecture, Fujitsu makes it easier than ever to transition to a Zero Client environment

Munich, November 24, 2010

Fujitsu today announces two new Zero Client models: the Zero Client DZ22-2 and the Zero Client DZ19-2, providing more choices and flexibility that make it easier than ever for companies to integrate Zero Clients into their existing infrastructure. Recognizing that customers need to choose the platform that best works for their unique business needs, Fujitsu’s Zero Clients support more hypervisor platforms than any other vendor. In addition, new features such as multi-monitoring, LED technology and Power over Ethernet (PoE), further reduce costs and increase productivity.

For companies considering a Zero Client environment, but may have concerns about integrating Zero Clients into their existing infrastructure, Fujitsu’s platform-independent Zero Clients resolve this issue. IT managers no longer have to reconfigure terminal services technology, and instead can choose the platform that best meets their existing infrastructure requirements. Fujitsu Zero Clients support all three leading hypervisors, including VMware ESX(i), Microsoft Hyper-V and as of January 2011, Citrix Xen Desktop. Fujitsu’s highly scalable architecture makes it easy to add or remove Zero Clients to meet changing business demands.

Making Zero Clients an increasingly attractive option, the new Zero Client models provide even greater productivity and cost-savings. Both the Zero Client DZ22-2 and Zero Client DZ19-2 offer the latest display technology in two different sizes, a 19-inch or 22-inch panel. Multi-monitoring functionality extends the desktop to another display if desired, increasing efficiency by allowing users to refer to multiple documents or applications at once. In addition, the newest LED backlight technology provides high contrast and display clarity for comfortable working. The efficient LED technology also saves energy, further reducing energy costs.

A unique feature in Fujitsu’s Zero Client DZ22-2 is Power over Ethernet (PoE). A single Ethernet cable provides power and Ethernet, making installation and roll-outs even easier and eliminating tangled power cords. Both new models support Voice over IP and webcams.

In addition to supplying the hardware and software for a Zero Client environment, Fujitsu provides support services and resources to simplify the transition. A Zero Client Manager Support Pack ensures that support is available to customers according to their service level agreements. For customers who buy a complete Zero Client solution including PRIMERGY Server and Switch, Fujitsu offers support for and a go-life-service. This makes it even easier for customers to get started with a Zero Client environment, as the service includes installing the Zero Client Manager and all connections within the solution and to the internet.

Fujitsu’s Smart Sourcing concept provides additional flexibility when adopting a Zero Client environment. This allows customers to choose from various options and hybrid models for an IT infrastructure that best suits their needs. For example, a terminal server farm may be sufficient for task workers who only need a couple of applications. Meanwhile, knowledge workers or external users may be best served by a virtual desktop infrastructure with Zero Clients. Power users with the highest performance requirements may need a dedicated device. Fujitsu’s Smart Sourcing concept allows for offices to combine these different approaches easily and effectively, saving costs and resources.

Rajat Kakar, Vice President Workplace Systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions says: “As virtualized desktop environments continue to gain popularity, Fujitsu is at the forefront of the innovation with these new Zero Client models. Fujitsu provides everything necessary for a seamless transition to a scalable Zero Client environment, from software and hardware with an open and independent platform, to services that simplify installation.”

About Zero Clients

In a Zero Client environment, all operating systems, applications, data, computing power and memory are located on a centralized server instead of individual machines. Without fans or moving parts, Zero Clients offer reliability, superior energy efficiency and can be administered and managed centrally, saving significant time and costs.
