  • Basic Agreement on Stock Transfer of Eudyna Devices Inc. Tokyo, Global, December 19, 2008 - Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited have reached an agreement on the transfer of Fujitsu’s shares of Eudyna Devices Inc., a 50-50 joint venture between the companies, to Sumitomo Electric.

  • Fujitsu Develops CMOS Logic-Based High-Voltage Transistor for Power Amplifiers Kawasaki and Tokyo, Japan, Global, December 17, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Limited and Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited today announced the development of a CMOS logic process-based high-voltage transistor featuring high breakdown voltage, suitable for power amplifiers used in wireless devices. As a world's first, Fujitsu developed a 45 nanometer (45nm)-generation CMOS-based transistor capable of handling 10V power output, thus enabling the transistor to handle high-output requirements necessary for power amplifiers used in WiMAX and other high-frequency applications. The new technology makes it possible for power amplifiers to be formed on the same die as CMOS-logic control circuitry to achieve single-chip integration, thereby making high-performance, low-cost power amplifiers feasible.

  • Fujitsu Laboratories Develops Power-Saving CMOS Technology for 32nm-Generation and Beyond Kawasaki, Japan, Global, December 16, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Limited announced today the development of power-saving CMOS technology for logic LSI chips for 32 nanometer- (32nm-) generation and beyond. The new technology enables employment of a specific silicon crystal surface, which previously had not been applied in silicon substrates due to the crystal surface's conventionally low performance in the past, by improving its performance. As a result, as a world's first, the technology makes it possible to use current 45nm-generation fabrication facilities to reduce LSI power voltage without lowering operation speed, thereby containing production costs and cutting LSI power consumption during operation by approximately 20 percent (20%). It is anticipated that the technology can be used in a wide range of applications, such as system LSIs for various mobile devices that will need to be increasingly multi-functional, and for microprocessors of which many are running with multiple processing cores.

  • Fujitsu Receives Supercomputer Order from Riken Tokyo, Global, December 08, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has received an order from Japan's Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, known as Riken, for a new supercomputer system with a peak theoretical performance of 108 teraflops, approximately 9 times the performance of the existing system.

  • Fujitsu Unveils Interstage XWand Version 10 Tokyo, Global, November 20, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited today announced Interstage® XWand® Version 10, the latest release of its acclaimed XBRL software designed to help companies increase transparency and governance around financial activities. The newest release is one of the industry's first offerings to incorporate the power of business rules in XBRL-based reporting with the adoption of XBRL Formula 1.0, the latest extension to the XBRL specification.   • Fujitsu and Red Hat Strengthen Alliance on Linux Support Services for Mission-Critical Environments Tokyo and Raleigh, North Carolina, Global, November 18, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited and Red Hat, Inc. today announced that they have strengthened their global alliance for providing Linux support services for mission-critical environments. Building on the maintenance and support expertise Fujitsu has cultivated through its mainframe systems, the two companies have jointly developed new Linux support services that are designed to provide quicker response times and extended support periods for mission-critical systems. The new support services will be available beginning today for the Japan market through Fujitsu, and gradually expanded to other geographic markets in the future.

  • Fujitsu Laboratories Develops Video-Processing Technology Enabling World's First Wraparound View of Vehicles in Real Time Kawasaki, Japan, Global, November 17, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced today the development of a new video-processing technology that enables a complete wraparound view of a vehicle's perimeter in real time, to enhance the driver's field of view. The new driver assistance technology adapts to different driving situations, enabling the driver to peripherally view the entire surroundings of a vehicle, from the point of view and field of view that is most appropriate for each driving situation. The technology improves driving safety by assisting the driver in a variety of situations, such as parking, passing on a narrow street, and seeing around corners at intersections with poor sightlines.

  • Fujitsu to Release New Line of Enterprise Hard Disk Drives Tokyo, Global, November 17, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited today announced the development of two new series in its line of 2.5" enterprise hard disk drives (HDDs), the 10,025-rpm MBD2 RC series and 15,000-rpm MBE2 RC series, both of which provide standard support for the 6Gb/s SAS interface. The MBD2 RC series will be released in the first quarter of 2009 calendar year, and the MBE2 RC series will be available in the second quarter.

  • Fujitsu to Release New Energy-Efficient 500 GB 2.5" HDD Models Tokyo, Global, November 11, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has developed two new 500 GB 2.5" hard disk drive (HDD) models that feature a rotational speed of 5,400 RPM and deliver industry-leading levels of energy efficiency. The MJA2 BH series will be available from the end of December 2008, and the MJA2 CH series will be available in the first quarter of the 2009 calendar year.

  • Fujitsu MHZ2 CJ Series of 2.5” HDDs Earns JIS Security Accreditation Tokyo and Kawasaki, Global, November 04, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced that the MHZ2 CJ Series of 2.5” hard disk drives (HDDs) with automatic hardware-based encryption, introduced by Fujitsu in April 2008, has become the first HDD line to obtain JIS X 19790 (*1) Security Accreditation.   • Fujitsu Laboratories Develops C- to X- Ultra-Wideband Gallium-Nitride HEMT Power Amplifier Featuring High Output and Efficiency Kawasaki, Japan, Global, November 04, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced today the development of a high-performance power amplifier based on gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistors (HEMT), which as a hybrid amplifier - an amplifier in which the transistor and capacitor are each mounted on separate semiconductor package substrates - features the world's highest output performance in terms of power and efficiency in the C-band to X-band radio frequency bandwidths above 5GHz. This technology opens the potential for higher performance and functionality in broadband and radar communication systems, in particular for airplane radar systems and other instruments that use multiple frequencies, which could be accommodated by a single amplifier. Furthermore, in comparison with conventional power amplifiers that use gallium-arsenide (GaAs), the new ultra-wideband (UWB) GaN-HEMT-based amplifier features higher efficiency, thus enabling a reduction in the size of cooling equipment, which is anticipated to result in power amplifiers that are smaller and lighter.

  • Fujitsu Laboratories Develops High-Efficiency Gallium-Nitride HEMT Power Amplifier Featuring World's Highest Output Power Kawasaki, Japan, Global, October 21, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced today the development of a new high-efficiency, high-output amplifier based on gallium-nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) that produces over 300 watts (300W) of power in the C band, with 60% efficiency as a ratio of DC input power converted to high-frequency output power. Use of GaN HEMT technology increases output power over existing amplifiers using gallium-arsenide (GaAs) transistors (comparison by Fujitsu Laboratories) by more than six-fold, to 320W. This is expected to extend radar detection range by 2.4 times. It is anticipated that replacing the traveling-wave tube amplifiers commonly used for high output power applications with this new technology will enable smaller, lighter, more energy-efficient, and longer-lasting transmission systems for applications including satellite communications, next-generation mobile phone base stations and radar.

  • NTT DOCOMO, Renesas, Fujitsu, and Sharp to Jointly Develop Platform for HSUPA Mobile Phone Tokyo, Global, October 16, 2008 - NTT DOCOMO, INC., Renesas Technology Corp., Fujitsu Limited, and Sharp Corporation today announced that they plan to jointly develop the SH-Mobile G4 single-chip LSI device, and a platform incorporating it, to support the HSUPA1/HSDPA2/W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (2G) mobile telephony standards.   • Fujitsu Develops World's First Gallium-Nitride HEMT Able to Cut Power in Standby Mode and Achieve High Output Tokyo and Kawasaki, Japan, Global, October 10, 2008 - Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of a new type of gallium nitride (GaN) -based high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) that features a new structure ideal for use in amplifiers for microwave and millimeter-wave transmissions, frequency ranges for which usage is expected to grow. In a technological first, a novel transistor structure was developed that achieves high output of over 100 watts and enables power to be cut when the transistor is in standby mode.   • Fujitsu Develops Millimeter-Band Transmitter Capable of Data Transmission Speeds Exceeding 10 Gbps Kawasaki and Tokyo, Japan, Global, June 19, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited announced today, as a world's first, the development of a transmitter operating in the 70-100 GHz band using impulse radio that is capable of transmitting data at speeds of more than 10 gigabits per second. This new development eliminates the need for oscillators and other hardware that had been required for use of earlier millimeter-band transmitters, thus enabling a smaller millimeter-band transmitter. As a substitute for fiber-optic high-speed lines, the new transmitter could be used in wide range of applications geared to help bridge the digital divide, including for platform networks and short-range wireless LANs.

  • Fujitsu Laboratories Develops Power Gating Technology to Enable Power Savings in System LSIs Kawasaki and Tokyo, Japan, Global, June 17, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Limited and Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited announced today, as an industry first, the development of circuit technology that can rapidly switch a power supply from off to on in less than one microsecond. This makes it possible to extend the "off" period - sleep time - of a chip as a means to reduce leakage current, enabling highly integrated LSI chips to consume less power. Details of this technology will be presented at the 2008 Symposium on VLSI Circuits, to be held from June 18 to June 20 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

  • Fujitsu Laboratories Develops Low-power CMOS Technology For 32nm Generation Kawasaki and Tokyo, Global, June 17, 2008 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited today announced the development of low-power CMOS technology for 32nm-generation logic LSIs, which makes it possible to minimize the number of necessary manufacturing processes for LSIs, and without the need to utilize additional new materials. While minimizing rising costs associated with a rise in additional manufacturing processes, the newly developed technology can reduce power-supply voltage without causing a drop in operation speeds, and can lower operational power consumption by approximately 40% compared to technologies for 45nm-generation logic LSIs. It is anticipated that this new technology can be used for wide range of applications, such as for system LSIs for mobile devices which are becoming increasingly multi-functional, and microprocessors that are increasingly adopting multi-core configurations.
