Fujitsu Establishes an Electric Vehicle Fleet with Origin

Sydney, Australia (January 30, 2024) – Fujitsu, a global digital transformation company, today announced its engagement with Origin, one of Australia's leading energy companies, for the implementation of an innovative electric vehicle (EV) trial for Fujitsu’s operational fleet of vehicles. The strategic relationship forms part of Fujitsu’s vision and journey towards achieving carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030.

As part of the engagement, Fujitsu has signed up to Origin’s 360 EV Flex Plan as one of its launch customers. Fujitsu will lease five vehicles across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, leveraging the flexibility and cost effectiveness offered by the subscription model. Learnings and experience from this trial will inform Fujitsu’s transition plan in line with its net zero commitments.

This will enable Fujitsu to access the NSW Government EV Fleet Incentive, which is designed to encourage organisations to accelerate their shift to EVs and reduce emissions.

Richard Clifton-Smith, Sustainability Manager, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, says, “Being an initial customer of Origin’s EV business subscription program speaks to our ongoing commitment to improving Fujitsu’s sustainability and environmental practices.

“With sustainability at the core of our purpose at Fujitsu, we prioritise making our own operations more sustainable and working with our customers, partners, and suppliers to help them solve their own sustainability challenges.

“Our engineers will be taking these EVs on the road to our customers’ sites to provide field support services. We are proud to support more sustainable technologies like electric vehicles, to help minimise the carbon footprint of the services we provide to our customers.”

Nicole Forrester, VP, Purpose, People & Culture, Fujitsu Asia Pacific, says “This innovative EV trial marks the beginning of our journey towards establishing a 100% zero emissions vehicle operational fleet by 2030. As a foundational customer of Origin’s business subscription program, we are proud to reach another milestone in our Net Zero journey.

“This initiative not only exemplifies our commitment to integrating sustainability into our business practices, but also demonstrates our dedication to building meaningful relationships for sustainable business collaboration in the face of global challenges. By fostering relationships with organisations like Origin, we aim to collectively help solve global environmental issues, accelerate sustainability transformation, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.”

Responding to climate change is a top priority for Fujitsu as outlined by the Fujitsu Climate and Energy Vision. Earlier this year, Fujitsu announced its commitment to accelerating its plans by 20 years to achieve net zero emissions across its operations by 2030 and its entire value chain by 2040.

Origin’s General Manager of eMobility, Chau Le, says “Origin 360 EV is delighted to be supporting Fujitsu as they begin their EV journey. Our team is committed to simplifying the transition to cleaner mobility for businesses by providing end-to-end solutions with a range of flexibility to suit different needs.

“We look forward to embarking on this trial with Fujitsu and making this initial EV adoption as seamless and easy as possible for them, as they explore the best ways to fully electrify their fleet in the future.”
