The Council’s new service model to support ICT infrastructure and applications services as well as the delivery of new and innovative technologies. as part of its ‘Digital Gold Coast’ agenda.

News facts:

  • Fujitsu wins five and a half year, $140 million managed services contract at the City of Gold Coast - the second largest local government area in Australia
  • End-to-end suite of managed infrastructure and applications services
  • Fujitsu to create 100 jobs on the Gold Coast in support of the contract
  • Fujitsu partners with Optus and local Gold Coast company OntheNet
Sydney, April 19, 2016 - Fujitsu today announced it has been appointed as the Managed Services provider of the City of Gold Coast’s ICT Infrastructure and Applications. The managed services investment of $140 million over the five-year contract period (plus 6-month transition) will see Fujitsu support and manage the ICT systems and applications. The investment also includes a mix of hardware refresh and transformation to Cloud Services.

Dale Dickson, Chief Executive Officer of City of Gold Coast said: “The Gold Coast is an important global city, which is proudly looking towards the future. This contract will help transform the way we work and our customer experience. Our partnership with Fujitsu will offer flexibility in the way we consume ICT services and also allow us to leverage a proven delivery model that is responsive to peaks and troughs in demand. This partnership will progress our ‘Digital Gold Coast’ agenda, which is focussed on making lives easier and more connected and businesses more efficient and globally competitive through the use of new technologies. We went through a very thorough evaluation process and Fujitsu’s response was assessed as being the most advantageous to Council in terms of both capability and price”.

Fujitsu will implement an end-to-end suite of managed infrastructure and applications services from a combination of onsite, onshore and offshore delivery. While Council is retaining responsibility for its Service Desk during business hours, Fujitsu will provide after-hours Service Desk support. Fujitsu will partner with Optus and local Gold Coast Internet Services Provider Onthenet to provide telecommunications and WAN services to support the contract.

The primary benefit of the Fujitsu managed services contract includes a consumption-based approach that will allow the City to pay for only what it uses, rather than funding ICT assets upfront, and enable flexibility in response to peaks and troughs in demand.

An important additional component of the contract will be the economic benefits resulting from Fujitsu’s commitment to the creation of 100 jobs for the Gold Coast region. These will be technical, support and administrative positions at Fujitsu dedicated to the delivery requirements of this contract and other Fujitsu services nationally.

The transition to the Fujitsu Managed Services model is well under way and is expected to be fully operational by 1st June 2016.

Mike Foster, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said: “This is a significant expansion of our existing relationship for Fujitsu. It reflects the strength of our growing presence in Queensland and our strong heritage in providing managed services for corporate and government customers throughout Australia and New Zealand. We are proud to be contributing to the technology-driven improvements in services being delivered to the residents of the Gold Coast and our commitment to create 100 jobs on the Gold Coast over the next 18 months.”
