Fujitsu Wins Foodstuffs North Island ICT Contract

Fujitsu New Zealand Limited

Wellington, November 18, 2013

Fujitsu announces it has won the contract to supply Foodstuffs North Island with server architecture and Point of Sale equipment to support the operation of nearly 200 PAK'nSAVE, New World, Four Square and Gilmours stores in the upper North Island.

This multi-million dollar ICT tender is one of the largest in the NZ retail sector in recent times, with Fujitsu to deploy an infrastructure of over 3000 integrated ETERNUS storage units, PRIMERGY servers, and Fujitsu Point of Sale (POS) controllers and touchscreens. The rollout is scheduled to be completed by mid-2015 and Fujitsu will continue to provide support and warranty for all devices.

Foodstuffs North Island has commissioned the new infrastructure as part of their current business transformation systems and technology upgrade programme.

Fujitsu's successful bid in this strongly contested tender presented an uncomplicated approach to a design that incorporated advanced and robust technologies for the supermarket environment. Fujitsu provides full accountability for its offering, which lies in its ownership of all equipment from R&D through to the five year warranties and ongoing support. Its nationwide field services team already supports some of the largest public and private sector organisations in New Zealand.

Peter Muggleston, CIO, Foodstuffs North Island, said: "Fujitsu's comprehensive infrastructure refresh will play a significant role in our transformational systems and technology renewal programme and will ultimately enable FSNI to take our business systems capability and customer experience to new levels. We felt that the Fujitsu team clearly understood our requirements and the New Zealand retail landscape while being able to draw on its global expertise."

Jo Healey, Managing Director of Fujitsu New Zealand, said: "Fujitsu is very proud of its ability to demonstrate to Foodstuffs North Island a commitment to service linked to a nationwide capability unmatched in New Zealand - a capability that is supported globally. We are well positioned to play a significant role in the NZ retail sector through our POS, infrastructure and support services and are delighted to be working with Foodstuffs North Island."
