Fujitsu has entered into a global partnership with EVault Inc., a Seagate Company (NASDAQ:STX) and leader in delivering cloud-connected full-service backup and recovery offerings. The strategic partnership enables Fujitsu to expand and enhance its backup and recovery portfolio by bringing to market a series of comprehensive hybrid cloud services that allow customers to leverage cloud backup effectively.
Organisations today have to navigate changing and complicated data backup and recovery requirements and increasingly they are looking for solutions that provide flexibility on data location and storage. Fujitsu’s hybrid cloud backup solutions, combining Fujitsu technology with EVault software, will offer new levels of choice for companies seeking a reliable, agile backup method that allows for changing business and regulatory requirements and multiple traditional and cloud platforms.
Fujitsu Backup-as-a-service (BaaS), a cloud-based, self-service data backup and recovery solution powered by EVault software, is hosted on Fujitsu’s Global Cloud Platform. It enables companies to back up data and systems over the Internet to a cloud service, supported by a 24/7 telephone service desk and Fujitsu’s outstanding experience in managing data backup for clients. The self-service interface of Fujitsu BaaS provides simple and effective access to configure backup schedules, select retention periods, view job progress and alerts and perform restores. All data, both in transit and at rest, is secured by Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) that meets the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) compliant requirements.
“Our clients recognise that cloud-based services can offer significant improvements in agility and cost-savings but they also require flexibility in adopting cloud services so they can meet their individual needs. A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work, which is why a hybrid approach to backup services is so important,” said Cameron McNaught, senior vice president cloud and strategic solutions, Fujitsu. “The decision to partner with EVault was an easy one. Not only do we have a long-standing strategic relationship with Seagate, but the qualities of EVault’s solutions make it the perfect partner for delivering the hybrid cloud service for backup and so sustain our commitment to our customers – whatever their location and size – to provide choice and agility through the Fujitsu Cloud service offerings.”
Over the coming months, Fujitsu will launch a series of services based on the EVault technology that enable organisations to adopt a hybrid cloud backup strategy, with the ability to manage cloud-based and traditional on-premise data and meet the specific data residency, compliance or protection requirements they face. Customers will be able to store and retrieve their data from both client devices as well as servers, databases and whole systems, and have the flexibility to define where and how they store their data.
To aid in the backup and restoration of large volumes of data quickly, Fujitsu will offer services that enable data to be stored on an on-premise device to capture initial full backup before transport to a Fujitsu data centre – with following backups taking place over the network. Finally the breadth of Fujitsu’s Global Cloud Platform will enable the company to deliver an optional disaster recovery service to its customers.
“Fujitsu is a world-class IT services provider with an impressive heritage. Strategic partnerships are fundamental to EVault’s success and we are delighted to be working so closely with Fujitsu,” said Terry Cunningham, president and GM of EVault. “By leveraging EVault’s solid backup offerings on Fujitsu’s cloud, the partnership brings easy-to-implement, efficient and secure cloud-connected backup to organisations which are navigating the complexities of online business continuity.”
