Fujitsu announces optimum capacity Picobird 16HE hard disk drives

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, July 03, 2001

Fujitsu Australia, the largest supplier of hard drives for desktop computers in Australia, today announced an addition to its Picobird 16HE family of hard disk drives. The new MPG3409AH-EF, a 40.9GB ATA100, and MPG3307AH-EF, a 30GB ATA100 interface drive, offer many features. The 7200RPM model boasts an internal transfer rate as high as 60.7MB/s, an average seek time of 8.5 ms, a large 2MB buffer and Fujitsu's proprietary Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology.

These optimum capacity drives are ideally suited for today's wide range of data intensive desktop applications. Whether it is digital audio and video file processing, business productivity software releases or the vast number of video games evident in the home market, Fujitsu's drives will meet these storage appetites and many others.

"We are pleased with Fujitsu's latest IDE drive offering," said Mike Yell, Fujitsu Australia General Manager Peripheral Products. "The new features exemplify Fujitsu's continuing advancements in drive design and performance, which complements our reputation as a leading producer of reliable drives for today's market."

Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology

The MPG3409AH-EF and the MPG3307AH-EF both incorporate Fujitsu's proprietary Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology, giving it one of the industry's lowest acoustic ratings. FDB technology has several advantages over conventional ball bearing motor technology. Acoustic noise is reduced to approximately a quarter of the level emitted from equivalent conventional drives and reliability is improved through reduced wear characteristics and better shock tolerance features. The result is quality drives that are ideal for data integrity and noise-sensitive applications.

Availability and pricing

The MPG3409AH-EF and the MPG3307AH-EF hard disk drives, including the entire family of Picobird 16 series are now available from Australian resellers nationwide. The MPG3409AH-EF has a recommended retail price of A$310 including GST, while the MPG3307AH-EF has an RRP of A$255 including GST.
