The LifeBook range of notebooks launched today by Fujitsu Australia Limited delivers new technologies to the Australian market such as handwriting recognition and pen-based technology; Transmeta's Crusoe processor; pre-boot security and CD-RW drives, to deliver state-of-the-art mobile computing solutions without compromising on performance or affordability.
The notebooks are specifically designed to suit the different demands of corporate users.
P Series
The P Series delivers the performance of a notebook but offers the personal convenience of a PDA. The LifeBook P-1000 uses Transmeta's innovative Crusoe processor to squeeze up to eight hours' battery life and notebook-sized storage capabilities into a case the size of a personal organiser. This is one of the first Crusoe-based notebooks to hit the Australian market, and its low power consumption, low heat and longer battery life make it the perfect tool for those who spend long hours on the road.
B Series
Fujitsu's B Series is the only notebook available in Australia with user-friendly touch screen technology. It can be used in conjunction with handwriting recognition and pen-based technology for an advanced interface. Weighing only 1.4kg, the B Series is perfect for the travelling executive or mobile salesperson. The optional USB digital camera can be attached to the top of the display to create a quick and convenient video conferencing system.
S Series
This ultra-light sub-notebook combines 600MHz processor with a docking bay offering full peripheral support for devices such as an external monitor, LAN, printer, scanner, keyboard and others.
C Series
The C Series is a feature-rich notebook suited to high graphic content or development work. It incorporates a range of high-end multimedia facilities including video capture, S-Video output, IEEE1394 AV connection, and CD-RW drive for recording productions on the run.
E Series
For power-hungry users, the E Series is one of the most powerful notebooks available on the Australian market today. It incorporates a DVD drive, wireless infrared mouse and all the trimmings of a typical network-attached desktop such as 20GB hard drive and 850MHz Intel processor.
The magnesium alloy casing on all models ensures the range is far tougher than most notebooks, reducing the possibility of a cracked computer casing after a plane flight.
"Fujitsu pioneered many of the features in today's high-end notebooks such as the touch screen, built-in security panel, and the quick touch button so you can instantly launch applications including the Internet and email," Phil Kerrigan, CEO Fujitsu Australia, said today. "With worldwide sales of 5.5 million units in the last 12 months Fujitsu is confident that the breadth and depth of this range of mobile solutions will offer substantial appeal to Australian corporate customers."
Enhanced security
The B, C, S and E Series all have a built-in security panel which acts as a PIN lock to protect the notebook from unauthorised usage. The user simply keys in the PIN to ensure smooth boot-up of the notebook. The One Touch Panel consists of four buttons located just above the keyboard. This can be used as a security function.
The four multi-functional buttons are also programmable by the user for hassle-free launch of their Internet and email applications as well as two other user-preferred applications.
Overall security can be easily enhanced by using Windows 2000 Professional. Fujitsu and Microsoft have worked closely together to ensure that the Windows 2000 Professional operating system is an integral part of the Fujitsu notebook lineup.
