Fujitsu offers its 3,600 employees and contractors paid leave for their COVID-19 vaccinations in Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, August 9, 2021 - Fujitsu today announced it will offer its 3,600 employees and contractors in Australia and New Zealand up to half a day of additional paid leave to receive each COVID-19 vaccination and/or support an immediate family member with vaccination. As two doses of the vaccine are required, fully vaccinated employees and contractors can receive up to one day of paid leave in total upon completion of the two COVID-19 vaccinations. Any vaccination is to be undertaken on the advice of a health practitioner. This program is extensive as it not only incorporates Fujitsu’s employees but also extends through the cooperation of its external agencies to those contractors engaged by Fujitsu.

Graeme Beardsell, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said, “This initiative will support our employees and contractors in prioritising their health and that of our community. I believe that large employers must take some responsibility for supporting vaccination efforts and help advance our vaccination rollout. The ongoing economic and social disruption caused by COVID-19 needs to be halted as quickly as possible and corporate Australia and New Zealand are in a strong position to support public policy in this ongoing health and economic crisis.”

According to the Australian Government Department of Health, currently less than 23 per cent of the Australian population is fully vaccinated1. Similarly, in New Zealand, less than 16 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated2. Fujitsu will play its role in increasing these numbers by offering all staff paid time off to receive their two COVID-19 vaccinations.

Graeme Beardsell said, “By offering employees and contractors flexibility in their schedule and, in the case of employees, not requiring them to use their annual or sick leave to receive vaccinations, Fujitsu is demonstrating our commitment to their health and wellbeing. COVID-19 is not only causing physical symptoms; the mental and economic stress created by the pandemic also can’t be overlooked. Organisations that are committed to their employees’ physical and mental wellbeing should play their part in helping address the challenge of COVID-19, by making it as easy as possible for staff who are eligible and want to get vaccinated to do so.”
