Europe's second largest pulp producer Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab and IT services provider Fujitsu Services Oy have entered into an agreement on continuing their IT collaboration for the next three years. Along with the renewed agreement Fujitsu's Patja service for Botnia not only continues but also expands.
"Fujitsu bears comprehensive responsibility for the functionality of our IT infrastructure, allowing us to focus on developing solutions together with Fujitsu. In the renewed agreement, we further specified our goals, the service model and service level measuring. Our IT objectives are now more closely aligned with our business goals," says IT Manager Tapio Heikkilä of Botnia.
The Patja service for Botnia covers more than 700 workstations and 60 servers. Fujitsu has been responsible for their maintenance, support services and availability since 2003. Botnia has five pulp mills in Finland.
The Patja service will now be expanded, as from now on Botnia will also be getting server capacity as a service and helpdesk services on 24/7 basis. Pulp mills never rest, which is why it is imperative that IT support be available at all times.
"We extended our service hours, because we want to offer our end-users as disturbance-free and smooth IT services as possible. Our environment is highly critical. If, for example, data connections in the forklifts fail for some reason, we are in trouble in no time," Heikkilä points out.
Botnia's mills are located in different parts of Finland. Intensive and efficient communication between them requires an integrated IT environment.
"We've been happy with Fujitsu's credibility, and our Patja collaboration has already accomplished a lot of positive things in our company. Fujitsu's comprehensive regional organisation has been reliable and capable of providing consistent service throughout the country," Heikkilä says.
