During the SAP project labelled Hartsi, Hartwall's six-year-old SAP system will be upgraded to the latest SAP version, ECC 5.0.
According to Finance Director Kimmo Lautanen of Hartwall this is a major step for the entire Scottish & Newcastle brewer group, a part of which Hartwall is. "Our deploying the new SAP system actually serves as the entire Group's pilot project, which the parent company will be following with great interest."
Lautanen says IT's role in Hartwall's operations has become increasingly vital especially after its super modern production plant in Lahti was inaugurated. "In these circumstances SAP simply had to be upgraded to meet the latest requirements."
Fujitsu's responsibility for Hartwall's IT management and maintenance services dates back as far as 1999. Currently the operative IT infrastructure of all its offices is entirely managed by Fujitsu. The collaboration has also generated some special projects, such as the one where Hartwall's delivery truck drivers were equipped with palmtop terminals which enable them to wirelessly communicate directly with Hartwall's back end system.
