Stockmann plc and Fujitsu Services Oy have signed an agreement by which Fujitsu will deliver retail systems to two new Stockmann department stores in Moscow.

Stockmann is a Finnish listed company established in 1862 and engaged in the retail trade. Stockmann operates in Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

In mid-April 2004, Stockmann opened a new department store in Moscow’s Mega Mall. The retail system delivered to the new department store includes about 60 point-of-sale terminals, workstations and servers.

"At this stage, the stores will be equipped with NT-based systems that are currently the standard in Russia. Due to the tight schedule and the peculiarities of the Russian legislation we have not yet launched Fujitsu’s new GlobalSTORE system," says Ismo Montonen, Client Manager, Fujitsu.

According to business analysts, the purchasing power of Moscow’s population of about 14 million will support an even larger number of shopping paradises. The next major shopping mall, Mega North, will be opened in the autumn. We have already started a new project with Stockmann. Stockmann believes that Russia is the strongest growth market in Europe. Their goal is to become the leading department store group in the country.
