KONE Corporation’s international VoIP services provided by Fujitsu Finland

Fujitsu Finland Oy provides KONE Corporation with international voice services, their design and implementation as well as related training projects. The solution is based on Cisco’s VoIP technology.

Helsinki, kesäkuu 18, 2012

The service has already been in production in the EMEA region for a year. The service is rendered by a Finland-based cluster, which currently serves offices in Finland, Sweden and the UK. The service has already been implemented in the APAC region at the beginning of 2012, and expansion to the Americas is in progress.

For end users at KONE, the solution will offer a unified communication experience, including not only voice but also other services, such as voicemail and call forwarding. Today, the solution has approximately 4,500 users.

The solution is the functional core of voice services for KONE’s 35,000 users globally, in one thousand offices in different parts of the world.

As a result of good experiences gained with the European system, KONE decided to expand the service to other continents. The expansion will take place on a country and office basis, according to the needs of KONE business.

”Fujitsu has taken care of the system design and implementation in an exemplary fashion and helped our organisation to set up a solution providing support to our needs globally. We started the project by upgrading the system in Finland, but the good experiences gained from the project and from using the system in practice have enabled its expansion into an internationally used solution,” says Kimmo Kujanpää, Head of Technology Management at KONE.

The VoIP based voice solution brings both savings and better user experience for KONE. The solution is based on continental clusters and country-based local systems, which connect traditional and IP-based phone switchboards into the solution as a whole. This makes it possible to cut the number of switchboards and unify maintenance; at the same time users have more services at their disposal and better availability across borders. All end users are offered the same services irrespective of their location.

Users can select their terminal from traditional desktop phone, phone application in their workstation or mobile phone. The maintenance, change management and troubleshooting of the system are handled from one location according to uniform processes. The centralised voice solution enables free-of-charge call within the company between different offices and countries, as the voice traffic is carried over existing communication lines.
