J. Walter Thompson Philippines deploys VPN and network expansion with FPI

J. Walter Thompson

J. Walter Thompson, the world's first advertising agency, is in the process of transforming itself into the world's first global brand communications company for the benefit of their clients, to help them drive short-term sales and build long-term value for their brands.

In the Information Age, JWT recognizes the value of leveraging Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in general, and the Internet in particular, to enhance the suite of client services.

A significant initiative is the deployment of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for the use not just of the 315 JWT offices in 90 countries but more importantly for their clients. Peter Robert F. Espina, IT Manager of the Philippine office of J. Walter Thompson, is at the forefront of local efforts to implement VPN and other initiatives. For the project, JWT turned to Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. through its networking and communications subsidiary, WeSolv Open Computing, Inc., to provide both the equipment and the implementation support for JWT's networking expansion.

The VPN will provide IP-based applications such as Webcasts for clients. When JWT designs a new campaign for a client, they will inform them of its availability on the JWT network. The client can then review the material -- whether it be for print, radio, or television - and approve or request revisions.

In order to support these applications, JWT selected an array of Cisco Catalysts and accessories for the infrastructure, and FPI/WeSolv's expertise and support for the service. Both choices were easy:

Cisco equipment operates approximately 80 percent of Internet traffic and is well known for its scalability, reliability, and flexibility. FPI/WeSolv, on the other hand, has a solid reputation in the industry for providing exemplary support, including a 24-hour hotline and a guaranteed response time of less than four hours in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

Service units are available to replace malfunctioning equipment. For a network like JWT's that will service clients 24 hours a day, seven times a week, such an arrangement gives JWT and its ICT staff peace of mind.
