Fujitsu Honors Students at Richardson Independent School District (RISD) for Excellence in STEM

Fujitsu STEM Scholarships awarded to three graduating high school seniors who excel in science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. hosted the Excellence in Education breakfast celebration for the Richardson Independent School District (RISD) on May 10. The annual event honored the 2019 recipients for 18 different scholarships, including the Fujitsu STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) scholarships totaling $10,500.

To qualify for the Fujitsu STEM Scholarships, the winners met the following criteria, with awards based on a combination of financial need, academic performance and personal character:
  • Achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Studied four years of science, technology, engineering and/or math classes with B’s or better
  • Will enter a two or four-year college or university to major in a STEM field
  • Received two written recommendations from among student’s STEM teachers, counselors, and extracurricular instructors
  • Wrote an essay describing their decision to choose a STEM field as their major and specify their major STEM field of study
Winners of the 2019 Fujitsu STEM Scholarships are named below.
  • Jesse Dejong, Richardson High School -  $4,500
  • Jonathan Garcia Melendez, J.J. Pearce High School - $3,500
  • Katherine Mulry, J.J. Pearce High School - $2,500

All RISD scholarship recipients were recognized on Friday May 10, 2019 by The Board of Directors of The RISD Excellence in Education Foundation & Fujitsu at the Fujitsu headquarters in Richardson.
