Richardson, TX, September 25, 2018
Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. is launching a new internship program available to University of Akron Engineering students for the summer of 2019. The fully paid, eleven-week internship will include hands-on educational training working with an advanced municipal fiber and wireless broadband network in Fairlawn, Ohio.

University of Akron College of Engineering students are eligible to apply for this internship program, which will take place from May to August of 2019. The chosen candidate will work for approximately eight weeks in the network services business unit on Fujitsu’s campus in Richardson, Texas, interacting directly with team members to help design, build and operate actual networks. The remaining three weeks will be spent working with the FairlawnGig® broadband utility network operations team in Fairlawn. In addition to being paid for their time, the intern will receive relocation allowance. Engineering students interested in this unique internship program can apply online via this website link: https://jobs.fnc.fujitsu.com/job/Richardson-Services-Broadband-Network-Internship-TX-75082/505608900/

“The University of Akron College of Engineering produces some of the most sought-after, job-ready engineering graduates in the country,” said Dr. Craig Menzemer, acting dean of engineering at the University of Akron. “With a first-rate education on campus, enhanced by real-world experience gained through professional internships such as the Fujitsu program, our students are poised to be the leaders and builders of the burgeoning technology economy.”

“Access to high-quality, reliable internet connectivity and advanced digital technologies are key to enabling cities like Fairlawn to grow and thrive, boosting economic development and helping area residents prepare for twenty-first century careers,” said City of Fairlawn Mayor Bill Roth. “As we evolve toward a ‘smart city’ model, we have the ability to respond more quickly to modern challenges, fundamentally changing the way we work to enable greater productivity, efficiency and ultimately, better quality of life for our residents.”

“Work experience is a powerful career builder. Together with the City of Fairlawn, Fujitsu is investing in hands-on internship opportunities today to enroll the next generation of talent in broadband technology for a hyperconnected future,” said Greg Manganello, senior vice president and head of services for Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc.

The Fujitsu internship program is based on the belief that a highly-skilled workforce is essential in driving innovation, creativity and productivity. During 2017, 60 students participated in its summer internship and new graduate programs, and 20 percent were later hired by Fujitsu for positions in software engineering and development, strategic planning and channel sales.
