Fujitsu Updates Business and Application Screening Service for Improved Application Visualization

Quickly and inexpensively visualizes complex application structures

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, May 13, 2013

Fujitsu today announced an update to its APM(1) Modernization Service for Cloud, which assist customers to grasp the condition of their business applications and optimize their operations. The updated service, FUJITSU APM Modernization Service for Cloud Business and Application Screening Service, employs enhanced technology for visualization and is available in Japan starting today.

Jointly developed with Fujitsu Laboratories Limited, this service uses a proprietary software map-generating technology, which helps to intuitively visualize the condition of a complex application using a map image. This gives an overview of application structures that have grown too complicated and hard to maintain over the years, and, in addition to helping with maintenance on existing systems, is a faster and less expensive way to visualize these systems than before.

Enterprises have an ongoing need to improve the quality of their business applications in order to keep the ICT systems they depend on running smoothly. However, as enterprise applications expand and become more complex over time, they are often difficult to make improvements in a timely manner.

In May 2010, Fujitsu began offering APM Modernization Service for Cloud to enable customers to visualize the condition of their business applications and make revisions for more efficient operations. Since then the service has received enthusiastic reviews.

Based on the following requests from customers, the updated software now features software map-generating technology jointly developed by Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories.

  • The previous version produced detailed visualizations intended for engineers. Customers also wanted big-picture views for managers who do not need to understand the detailed structures, to form top-down policies for upgrade plans more quickly.
  • Customers wanted the same analytic tool to show an overview of macro-level application structures for managers and to present details to staff in charge of maintaining the applications to increase local optimizations and general consistency.
  • Customers wanted faster, less expensive application visualizations to speed up improvements by staff in charge of maintaining the applications.

About the Service

The software map-generating technology developed jointly by Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories gives a big-picture view of an application's structure that intuitively reveals its feature components and complex structural parts. This shines a spotlight on areas that need improvement and makes it possible for managers to grasp the complexities of the application's overall structure without going into minute detail. In addition, this technology can complete visualizations in roughly one week that previously took some two months, thereby greatly reducing costs.
