Fujitsu Introduces REGZA Phone IS11T

Fujitsu today announced that the new REGZA Phone IS11T smartphone from Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications will be available in Japan beginning September 9, 2011, through KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company.

The REGZA Phone IS11T features a clickable, easy-to-press full-sized QWERTY keyboard for quick and accurate text input, while at the same time offering effortless touchscreen-based input. Building upon the REGZA product family's renowned imaging performance, the handset is equipped with Mobile REGZA Engine 4.0, which includes the new "mobile texture realizer" technology, thereby further improving the smartphone's texture rendering performance for video content.

The handset, which runs the latest Android™ OS 2.3, is also equipped with a high-performance 1.4GHz CPU, making the smartphone speedy even when launching applications or browsing the Internet.

Background

As the smartphone market grows, an increasingly diverse range of applications are increasingly being utilized by users. REGZA Phone IS11T has been designed with a full-featured keyboard that is convenient for writing long e-mails or SNS messages. In addition to operating the smartphone with a single hand using its full-sized touchscreen, users can slide the handset open to access the keyboard for quick text input using both hands.

With IS11T, users can enjoy the enhanced convenience of watching one-segment TV broadcasts and tweeting on Twitter at the same time—an original feature that takes advantage of the smartphone's full-sized keyboard. By not displaying an on-screen keyboard, it is possible to use a large area of the smartphone's screen for comfortable text input via the physical keyboard. Moreover, the smartphone's "slide app launch" functionality allows users to select features, such as e-mail and a memo pad, that are instantly accessible by sliding the handset open.

Microsoft® Office files can be both viewed and edited⁽¹⁾ on the new smartphone, which comes pre-installed with a variety of applications, including a business card reader and security applications, that can be used in a business scenario.

In addition, IS11T comes fully equipped with wireless connectivity capabilities, such as the ability to enjoy captured photos on a large-screen DLNA-certified television⁽²⁾ and the ability to watch television shows recorded by a DTCP-IP-enabled⁽³⁾ video recorder over a Wi-Fi® network⁽⁴⁾.

REZGA Phone IS11T also includes standard mobile phone features including Osaifu-Keitai®, one-segment TV, infrared communications, and the ATOK Japanese input system. It is available in two colors: LUSTRE BLACK and COFFRET PINK.

1. Speedy input and operations made possible through a full-sized keyboard

A curved design that can comfortably be held with two hands with the keyboard extended, in combination with easy-to-press convex keys, enables consistently accurate key input. Furthermore, the smartphone helps users efficiently input text with a large "Enter" key and a dedicated "Copy" key that is convenient for copying and pasting. Emoticons and symbols can also be displayed without having to switch input modes, making message writing even easier.

2. Features that take advantage of the full-sized keyboard

• Using Twitter and watching one-segment TV at the same time
  Users can utilize Twitter and watch one-segment video content at the same time. As the on-screen keyboard is not displayed at the top of the screen, it is possible to use a large area of the smartphone's screen for comfortable tweeting via the physical keyboard.
• Slide App Launch
  A pre-selected application can be directly launched by simply sliding the handset open. Alternatively, users can also configure up to 12 frequently used applications, such as e-mail and the memo pad, to be displayed as a list.
• Quick Launch
  Frequently used applications can be assigned to alphabetic shortcut keys and then launched by pressing the "Search" button in combination with one of the keys. This, for instance, can allow the user to directly launch an electronic dictionary application while typing a message, without having to return to the home screen.

3. Mobile REGZA Engine 4.0: Enables high-resolution texture rendering for one-segment broadcasts and Internet videos

The smartphone supports the new "mobile texture realizer" technology. Based on the user's viewing environment, this technology automatically adjusts the darkest and brightest portions of a video to give it a sense of depth. When viewing the smartphone in a dim location, the technology increases the brightness of dark screen areas, thereby enabling the rendering of smooth, lifelike video content. In combination with existing technologies from Mobile REGZA Engine 3.0, including super-resolution technology, auto-image adjustment, and noise reduction, the new technology displays one-segment broadcasts and Internet videos in even higher resolution.

4. Advanced wireless connectivity

Using the DiXiM home network application, which allows digital home electronics to be interconnected, users can connect the smartphone to a DLNA-certified TV and view images stored on the IS11T in a large-screen format. In addition, the smartphone offers a new way to view TV by making it possible for users to watch TV programs recorded on a DTCP-IP-enabled video recorder in different locations inside the home using a Wi-Fi network.
